Road Race 8 re run results

Thursday evening we had the re run of road race 8.

30kmRR8

Due to a bad crash involving two members on the last attempt at this race it was decided that, as not everyone crossed the line, no points were going to be allocated. Thankfully we seen one of those riders back out to contest it again and has fully recovered from his injuries. Eight members turned out for the race on the evening and were set off in three groups. The first group was made up of John Foote, Stuart Witts, the second group consisted of Owen Hynes, Nanno Vuyk, John O’Carroll and in the third group we had Eoin Woods, David Kyle, and Liam Callaghan.

With the summer holiday season leading to lower than normal numbers, it made for a tough evening out with nowhere to hide from the blustery conditions for the lads. All of the lads in all 3 groups worked very well together in the tough conditions and the pace set was very strong from everyone. The two lads in the first group, John Foote and Stuart, shared the work from start to finish and both were in flying form and managed to hold off everyone else, crossing the line with about 30 secs to spare on the chasers. Both lads put in a big push for the line but could not be separated and crossed the line together. Some of these races are so close this year I think we’ll have to start installing a video camera on the line!! 😉 Fair play lads, very well done and congratulations on a fine win!! There wasn’t much between the rest of the lads crossing the line but there was no cat and mouse this time around! Owen and Nanno worked really well together in the last few kilometres and when they spotted the last group closing them down Owen decided to go for it from a long way out and buried himself for the last few minutes, just managing to hold the rest off and cross the line behind John Foote and Stuart.
