Club updates and spins

Hi everyone, we hope ye are all keeping well.  At last we finally got a glimpse of what our summer could be like with fabulous warm sunshine shining down on us during the week. Lets hope it continues again soon… This weeks notes are short and sweet.

Thursday

Club Racing: Road Race 2

Perfect conditions and lots of sunshine for racing on Thursday night. We had a super turnout for our race and we also welcomed riders from Portumna CC and O’Leary Stone Kanturk on the evening. This week’s route was Lower Clashnevin, Toomevara, Moneygall, Cloughjordan and finish Just before the N7 at Ranahleen south on the main Cloughjordan road,  35km. Luke Donnelly took a fine win on the night. Congrats Luke.  A fantastic nights racing by all and well done to everyone who came along and raced it was great to see you all back out again. Thanks as always to our helpers on the night we really appreciate it, Jan for timekeeping, Owen, Martin, Conor and thanks to Selina for the Video & photos of the evening, you can see them on our FB page here. Saturday

Another enjoyable spin was had by the lads on Saturday around the lake in glorious sunshine. Well done all.

Sunday

Club spin

There was a great turnout for Sunday’s spin. 15 riders strong left Moynan’s shortly after nine and headed out the Dublin road in the direction of Moneygall. Turning right in Moneygall the group hit the first test of the day when they climbed Army Hill and after a brief stop to re-group, they headed down the picturesque valley and on through Gortagarry and under the watchful eye of The Devil’s Bit cycled on to Borrisoleigh. Heading back towards Nenagh they turned left up towards Templederry enjoying the beautiful morning and the stunning scenery along the way. After quick descent in to Dolla, nine of the group headed back to Nenagh while six headed on through Silvermines and over to the Dublin road while facing a strong headwind all the way. When they turned right at the old main road the wind was now in their backs and they headed back into Nenagh, covering a distance of 80km. A most enjoyable spin was had by all.
Thanks to Andy for the report and well done to you all who were out. See you next week again…

Open Racing

Claire Ni Reachtagain was in race action again at the weekend and took part in the first round of the women’s intermediate league, the Waller cup in Bohermeen which was organised by the women’s commission. 34 riders strong signed on for the race, a 3 lap 16.5km circuit. Three riders came down on the first lap but thankfully Claire was towards the back of the bunch so managed to slow up and avoid cycling over a few bodies. However it left her with a good bit of work to do to get back up to the bunch as her chain had come off. The group wasn’t really cohesive and didn’t work together so in the interest of her own safety she sat at the front of the bunch for the remaining two laps. She said she tried to make a few breaks but sadly, none were successful and she was reeled back in. There was a bit of a bunch sprint to the finish but she didn’t have any legs left to contest! The second round of the league racing takes place next Sunday, April 29th. Claire very well done, you are going from strength to strength and all those races will stand to you in the future. We wish you the best of luck next weekend and we look forward to hearing all about it.
