Club updates and spins

Well that was one very cold St.Patricks weekend, not your typical spring weather with snow gracing our doorsteps yet again. Let’s hope that is the last of the snow!

So to start our updates…

Table Quiz

Another great night was had by everyone who turned out for our quiz night recently despite the quiz being postponed by a week due to the heavy snow fall and sub zero temperatures. We want to thank Frank and Susan from the Dapp Inn for hosting our event and looking after us on the night. Thanks to Tom and Ann Butler our quiz masters, great job as usual. Also thanks to all the club members and businesses that gave us the prizes for the evening, your generosity was very much appreciated. Thanks to Walsh’s Stationery, Clare Street Pharmacy, JKCs, O’Connor’s Kenyon Street market, Moynan’s Cycles, Select Catering and the prizes for 1st place donated by Noel Ryan’s Chemist and 2nd prize from Ger Gavin’s Gift Shop… thanks to everyone who came out to support our quiz night.

Club all together spin.

We had a great turnout for our season opening club all together spin recently so thanks to everyone who turned up on the morning. This spin had to be put back by a week because of the beast from the east but luckily the weather stayed fine for the group as they cycled to the Lakeside hotel via Birdhill for complimentary tea/coffee and scones. They returned back to Nenagh via the four sisters.. We would like to thank our support cars and thanks to the Lakeside hotel for their kind hospitality as usual. An enjoyable morning had by all.

Open Racing update

Last weekend we had representation from the club by Eoin Woods and our newest member Claire Ní  Reachtagáin at Ras Luimni. Well done to you both on your races. Great to see the race season started up again.

Eoin was racing in the A2 category where he finished strong in the bunch, great going Eoin, well done. Claire entered the A3 race (93km) but it was a strong field with lots of Junior riders and only one other female racing in it so it was intense from the offset! Unfortunately Claire said she got dropped early on from the bunch so rode the first lap on her own. Thankfully the A4 race caught up with her so she jumped in with them and called it a day after the second lap (62km). She said it was a very good experience which made her realise that she will be entering the A4 category for the next couple of races!! Onwards and upwards to her first race of the national series in Carlow on the 25th March!  Well done Claire.

At the time of writing we’re not aware of any members who took on an open race in the very tough and wintry conditions of this Patrick’s weekend. If we get any info we’ll post in the next club notes to fill you all in.

Weekend spins.

The lake is steadily becoming a very popular training route with our members. This picture is from the weekend before last, well done lads.

Patrick’s Day spin.

It was bitterly cold and windy on St. Patrick’s day for the groups spin around Lough Derg. They took on the lake anti clockwise this time around and started with the harder route along the rolling roads of Ballinderry. The lads had arranged to leave early that morning so as to be back in time to watch the Ireland V England Rugby match. They got the best of the weather and managed to avoid the showers the whole way around. They had a welcome coffee stop in a smashing little pub restaurant, The Half Barrel in Whitegate where they got a chance to warm the bodies and warm the jackets in front of the open fire before the final leg of the journey home to Nenagh. Well done to ye all and great to see so many of you out.

We’d be grateful of getting a few words from your race or any club spins to northtippwheelers@gmail.com or to Selina via WhatsApp as we know the members would love to hear how you got on.
