Club updates and spins

The race season is nearing an end now with only one more road race to contest to secure the final points on the league table… Thursday evening our hardy crew were out to see who was going to be crowned Lookout trophy winner of 2018. As it was the final of the trophy races, the route was going to have to be a bit tougher, taking in some nice climbs along the way.  A blistering pace was being set by everyone out racing and each group managing to hold the gaps, that was until they started the 1st big climb up Coum. The climbs, when racing up them, always push people to their absolute limits but it’s all part of racing.  All credit to Dermot who was still in front and the first to crest the climb at Coum but with Eoin, Edvins and Joseph not far behind and who set a ferocious pace on the descent to pass and pull away from Dermot and the others. Eoin Woods attacked on the descent to create a gap and from there continued to set a blistering solo pace heading towards Portroe. Portroe hill was the icing on the cake (or the final straw… 🙂 ) for most and sapped any energy that was left but Edvins put in a big effort here to almost pull Eoin back by the top of the village but Eoin dug again and pulled away once more to ride to a solo victory at the Lookout and retain the trophy again this year! Edvins held on to finish not far behind Eoin in second place and the podium was finished off by the resurging Joseph Donnelly who’s time away R&Ring is now starting to show its benefits and he put in a super effort being the only one to be able to hang onto Eoin and Edvins on the last part of the Coum climb and used them to put time into the rest of his comrades and then managed to hold them off to the finish after the lads attacked and broke away! Fantastic racing lads well done to ye all!!

Eoin Woods powering home to victory

Congratulations Eoin and a huge well done to everyone who was out racing, it was by no means an easy race or course but you all got to the finish line safely, brilliant going lads! Thanks to Conor for timekeeping, Owen and Joey for marshalling and Selina for the photographs of the evening which you can see in the attached link here.

The top 10 in the Road Race series after 9 of the 10 rounds is as follows:

John Foote still leads but Eoin has a race in hand…

Open Racing

Saturday – A few of the lads ventured to the Limerick Racecourse in Patrickswell to attend the Greenmount Oval Criterium which included the Munster Championships. Daniel Ronan made an early attack in the A4 race and found himself with another rider well out in front with a commanding lead but the chasing pack worked hard and unfortunately reeled them back in before the finish but it was a super effort and great to see, so well done Dan. It finished with a bunch sprint and our best finisher was Edvins Silovs who finished in the worst spot of the day… 7th when there was points for first 6 home! Hard luck but again a super effort and very well done!!
