Club updates and spins

Where has that week gone.  This year is absolutely flying it. Great success in the club this week.

Thursday club racing: Road Race 7

Again this week numbers were well down with summer holiday season taking it’s toll. Earlier in the day after a message from a club member to say that the Silvermines road looked to be resurfaced an inspection was done on it to see if it was safe to race on but luckily it was safe and it was decided the race would go ahead as planned. A safety briefing was held at the race start where John Foote was explaining that there were loose chippings on the road near the N7 exit where road works had taken place, but there seemed to be a loss in translation somewhere along the line and Edvins thought he said loose Chickens, asking” like the farmyard animals” and as you can imagine there was a burst of laughter from everyone before John explained what he was talking about. 🙂 There was great pep talks being handed out at the start but with the numbers being low there was nowhere to hide and it was tough going from the outset. Andy was on flying form which put our poor visitor Ted from Donegal in the hurt locker early on and pushed him over the edge and he pulled out early leaving Andy to continue on solo and chase down John and Roger which he did well! Andy’s pace proved a little too much for Roger who fell back but John did very well and worked with Andy to keep the very strong chasing duo of Eoin and Edvins at bay till the finish. Andy went on and put in a final dig to the line to take a fine win on the night leaving John to have to settle for a very good second place and Eoin Woods taking third spot in a fine sprint with Edvins. Congratulations to Andy on a very strong performance and taking a fine win!

Well done to everyone who raced and thanks to everyone who helped out on the evening.

Saturday: Winning ways for NTW at the Shannonside GP

We had three members racing on Saturday in Shannonside GP in Co.Westhmeath. Michael Crowe, Daniel Ronan and Edins Silovs. The race was two laps of a 32km course and the course itself was pretty flat with three steep descents and one sharp bend to contend with. Edvins found the first lap easy as there were no attempted breaks made by anyone so they were content with the pace that was being set. The second lap, with 18km raced, was pretty much the same but after that the pace started to pick up a little so it was then that Edvins decided to get up to the front of the bunch while the going was good and at that moment there were a few small moves made and he seen an opportunity to make his move and so he did. When he looked back to the chasing group they were approximately 200 metres behind him so with about 15km to go he decided to keep it up and go for a long one and he managed to hold off the main field to the line! Huge congratulations to you Edvins on your first A4 win and for doing it in style!! All your training is definitely paying off for you.

Well done also to Michael and Daniel who finished safely in the main chasing bunch sprint to the line, great going and not long before ye’re in the points list too…

Sunday club spin

There were 2 groups out on the road Sunday and nice to see the numbers increasing again and both groups left from Moynans at 9am. The group headed for Birdhill and at the roundabout Pat and John headed back and the rest of the lads turned left at The Coopers heading for Newport. In Newport there was a stop for light refreshments and after that they headed to Rearcross and then left for Dolla. Sadly the low cloud obscured the scenic view for them but luckily they met little traffic on route and enjoyed a lot of laughs along the way! At Dolla they turned for home with 76.5km completed. Andy even convinced a few more members to sign up to the Tour of Conamara next year! Momentum is building for that event. A very enjoyable spin was had by all.
