Club updates and spins

Things have settled down this week after hosting the Munster TT championships for the first time ever last weekend and we can all be very proud of ourselves and breath a sigh of relief that it was a huge success and that it ran so smoothly… So lots of news to fill you in on this week…

Thursday club racing

After a few weeks break from club racing due to training and organising the Munster TT champs the road racing resumed once again with the Championship road race. We are holding our championship races early this year so as to try to have them when less people are away on their summer holidays and try to allow more members to get a chance to compete in them. This weeks route was the ever testing rolling roads of Borrisokane, Carraigahorig, Balinderry and Puckane, 50km in distance. The route was never going to be an easy one as it’s a championship race after all so with a trophy on the line we had to make it a good challenge and I think anyone who was out racing will attest to that! Congratulations to Owen Hynes, our club Road Race Champion of 2018 taking the win on the night with Andy English in second place and Liam Callaghan taking the final spot on the podium! A very well done to everyone for coming out to contest the trophy and some serious effort put in from everyone out there on the evening! Big thanks to Jan for doing the start/finish, Conor for marshalling and Selina for taking the photographs of the race which you can see here. To see the full report please click on the link here

Cheque presentation to North Tipperary Hospice

Also on Thursday evening before our club race started, our club chairman, Owen Hynes and club secretary, Jan White surrounded by club members presented a cheque to Lelia Kelly, Kay O’Donoghue and Sandra Farrell from North Tipperary Hospice movement with a cheque for one thousand five hundred and fifteen euro. This year part proceeds from our club Tour de Lough Derg went to this very worthy charity and we thank everyone who came along to support and cycle our tour this year, this is what your entry fee went towards supporting. So a huge thank you from NTW.  From first hand experience dealing with the Hospice, the work, service and care that they provide to patients and their families is second to none… Keep up the good work!

NTW win big in Littleton!

We had a fine showing at the UDCC Tipperary TT championship in Littleton on Saturday last with 9 members taking to the roads to take on the 16km course. Conditions were very tough for the TT with a fine gale howling. Thankfully the rain held off, that was something at least! I think everyone can say that the 1st half of the course was very fast as there was a gale of a tailwind pushing everyone along so some great speeds on the outward leg being recorded, but, the story home was not the same with the wind straight into the faces but this didn’t stop the lads and lady putting in some great times on the day and setting some personal bests. Proudly yet again NTW members have won another 6 medals which is just a fantastic achievement after the successes at the Munsters. They brought home 4 Gold, 1 Silver and 1 bronze medal between them. Pat Bergin won Gold in A3, John Foote won Gold in M60,  Andy English won Gold in M50, Eoin Woods won Gold in M40 and also placed third overall fastest rider on the day, Joseph Donnelly won Silver in the Junior category and finally Liam Callaghan won Bronze in A4… Unfortunately we are missing Nanno from the group photo and we are missing a photo of Liam at the prize giving as he had to leave straight away after the race…

We have to say well done to all the 9 members who took part on the day you all did yourselves and the club very proud… Thanks also to everyone who came along to support and cheer on our riders in Littleton,  very much appreciated. Finally a huge well done and thanks to UDCC (Upperchurch Drombane Cycling Club) for hosting a super run event as usual and looking after us all on the day…

Naas TT

Also on Saturday more success for the club where Claire Ni Reachtagain was action in the Naas Time Trial in Kilcullen, Co.Kildare. This is the course that was used in the National TT in 2016 so it was a very challenging route indeed. Claire did a fantastic job and placed third in her category on the day. Huge well done Claire. Great preparation for you for the Nationals on June 28th.
