Club Updates & an ‘All Together Spin’ (October 5th)
All Together Spin
This forthcoming weekend (October 5th) sees another ‘All TOGETHER SPIN’. This is a hugely popular spin and provides the opportunity for all members from the leisure/intermediate and senior/racing groups to cycle together for a return journey from Nenagh to Ballina at a relaxed and enjoyable pace. This cycle provides a perfect opportunity for new cycling enthusiasts to cycle with club members to get a feel for club and group riding. The club also extends a warm invite to those female cyclists who took part in the recent ‘Women on Wheels’ programme.
The Lakeside Hotel in Ballina will again be providing coffee, tea and refreshments before the return journey to Nenagh. This is a free event open to all. Road worthy bicycle and cycling helmet are compulsory. All members are asked to support this event. Departing from Moynans Bike Shop at 9am Sunday October 5th.
Club Training Spins/Rides
Weekly spins and training sessions continue this week making use of the fine weather. Thursday at 6pm from Moynans Bike Shop, Nenagh. Saturday at 9am from Woodies carpark, Stereame retail park for leisure, intermediate and senior/race group training. All levels are catered for. For further details of any club events or club membership please contact club chairperson Pat Bergin 0876744400.
Night Time Cycling
From Tuesday October 7th, Brian and Benny’s night-time winter training recommences. This spin will set off from the Fivealley (pub car park on the old N7) at 7.15pm sharp and of similar arrangement to that last year. This year the two lads have returned to spice things up with a variation of routes. Expect circa 55km over 2hrs give-or-take. (The spins are variable, some sprints and hill/drag repeats with averages speeds ranging between 28-32kph).
For anyone who hasn’t done this before, this is an excellent structured training ride and is a real alternative to the turbo in the throws of dark winter nights. As the title suggests, this ride will continue throughout the winter and thus front and rear lights and hi-viz clothing is mandatory from the beginning. Also, consider winterising your bike with the inclusion of mud guards – If you think group cycling is a challenge on wet roads, try group cycling on wet roads at night! Expect it to get dark… very dark… but very very rewarding!
