RACING RESULTS
Road Race #8 of the year (RR#4 in the Summer Series) brought our road races for 2019 to a conclusion last Thursday evening. We do still have two time trials to run however. The 36km route was Upper Clashnevin – Toomevara – Moneygall – Cloughjordan – left at Modreeny Church for Nenagh via the Old Birr Road, and finish at Rapla outside Maher's Glass. Certainly, the shortening of the evenings was apparent and it was a bit gloomy from the outset with the inevitable rain catching us somewhere between Modreeny Church and the finish line.
Group 3 had a two minute head start on Group 2, and with a strong headwind to contend with they were caught not long after Toomevara. A good pace was set up front once the bunch turned left at Cloughjordan, and even though there were several strong surges at the front the two groups mostly stayed together until the finish. The decisive moment in the race happened when Patrick Yon Hin made a break 5-6km from the finish and at one stage had opened a gap of about 250 metres. There was a bit of hesitancy as to who was going to chase him down with several of the Group 2 riders more concerned with their own battle, but eventually the speed in the bunch increased and Patrick was caught about 500 metres from the finish line. The bunch sprint was initiated when Eoin Dillon decided he was going to go for the win, but in hindsight it may have been a little too soon. Liam Callaghan was next to follow Eoin and jumped on his wheel followed by Andy English and Nanno Vuyk. It was flat out at this stage but Liam’s strength told in the end as he held off the challenge from Andy by about a wheel, with Nanno close behind and a great effort from Eoin ensuring he got fourth and won his group on the night. It was a very exciting finish, and
hopefully took the minds of Jan, Noel, Rob and Eoin (Ryan)off the rain for a short while. A big thanks to the guys for helping out with the running of the race.
Road Race 8 results as follows:

Club racing:
Club racing continues on Thursday 15th August when we will hold TT4 in the J. Moynan Series (final time trial in the series). The start will be at The Roundhill Pub, first rider off at 7pm sharp.
Sign-on is at the race start from 6.30pm onwards. €5 race fee. This is a good way to measure how all those training spins over the Summer have paid off, so hope to see you there.
ROUTE (see map below):
Club caps
There are a small number (approx. 11 left) of club caps, or “casquettes” available to purchase. These are a great bit of kit for keeping bugs out of your hair (if you are lucky enough to have it!) but also great for absorbing sweat and helping to keep it out of your eyes. Plus, let’s face it you look cooler with a casquette. They have the regular club logos but are not the 30 th anniversary versions. The price is €15 each, contact Jan to get yours – they are selling fast.
Tuesday spin group
Pictured below are the group who took on the elements on Tuesday night (13/08) and did a 48km spin. Missing from the photo are Mike Gleeson and Paddy Rohan who didn’t wait for the rain to clear before heading off (fair play!) and one senior club rider who shall remain nameless(!) who decided to wait for more favourable conditions on Wednesday night. Maybe it was the right idea.
The week ahead:
Tuesday 13/08: Club spin leaving Moynan’s at 6.30pm
Thursday 15/08: RR#8 (details above)
Saturday 17/08: Training spin leaving from Woodies car park, Nenagh at 9am. (check first)
Sunday 18/08: Club spins leave Moynan’s at 9am. Routes to be decided on the morning
