Club Updates

WELL DONE EDVINS!

Congratulations to Edvins who won the Christy McManus road race (A2/A3) at the Roundwood GP (Bray Wheelers) last Saturday 27 th July. Edvins won with a solo effort with about 2.5 laps to go and by an approx. margin of 45 seconds, a great achievement considering Edvins started the year at A4. There is no stopping this man! It is great to see the club jersey on the podium again.

JOHN CAULFIELD COMPLETES MIZEN TO MALIN

Chapeau to John Caulfield on his great achievement of completing the Mizen to Malin route recently. The pictures show John channelling his inner Egan Bernal as he crosses the finishing line.
On another note, well done to the leisure group lads who completed the Cork / Kerry legs of the Wild Atlantic Way route recently.

RACING RESULTS

Last Thursday saw the running of the 2019 Club Championship Hill Climb. The race this year was combined with road race #2 in our Summer Series (Road Race 6 overall for the year). The course was a 14.5km route starting at Ballinamona Cross, before turning left up Dolla Hill and continuing up to the top of Bollingbrook Hill. Conditions on the night were dry but very windy, so there was a tactical decision to be made as to how hard to ride into the wind on the way to the start of the climb. As this was a championship race, a handicap was applied to the groups – Group 3 had a handicap of 2m 10sec on Group 2 who in turn had a handicap of 1m 50sec on Group 1. As it turned out, Group 2 caught Group 3 just after the turn at Dolla and Group 1 caught Group 2 shortly afterwards.
Overall winner on the night, and 2019 Hill Climb Champion is Edvins Silovs, second place went to Eoin O’Connor, and third place went to Andy English.
Summer Series RR2 (RR6 overall) results were as follows:
Group 1: Edvins Silovs
Group 2: Eoin O’Connor (1 st ), Andy English (2 nd ), Liam Callaghan (3 rd )
Group 3: Eva Moynan (1 st ), Eoin Dillon (2 nd ), Peter Moynan (3 rd )
Well done to the winners and all those who participated on the night, racing up hill is never easy!

RING OF CLARE

Well done to Roger, Mike, Eoin and Sean who participated in the recent Ring of Clare Sportive.

This race will double up with Race 3 of the Summer Series (RR7 overall). This will be a challenging 50km race and will be a great test of how well the riders will have progressed throughout the year. Sign-on will be opposite the meat factory at 6.30pm, and the race will start at 7pm. Entry fee is €5. Just like the Championship Hill Climb, this race will be a handicapped race for the club title and also a group race (similar to a normal club race). We are hoping for a good turn out on the night, so let’s see as many as possible out racing.
