Club Updates
Munster TT Championship 2019
Last Saturday saw the club host the Munster TT Championship for 2019, the second year in a row that the club has hosted this event, and for the second year in a row we saw an increase on the numbers participating over previous years. We had 34 youth riders taking part in the 8km race and 64 riders in the U15-M60 categories participating in the 30km race. This is a prestigious event for NTW to have been awarded, and the club is delighted and proud to be associated with it. The 30km course was the same as last year – Birdhill roundabout to the Carrigatoher (Five Alley) roundabout and return, and the 8km route for U14/U12 was also the same as for last year (Yellow Bridge to the Birdhill Roundabout). There was a strong westerly breeze blowing throughout, and while not really favouring the riders in the 30km route on the outward leg it certainly was felt by everyone cycling back towards Birdhill. Apart from a few brief showers, it was a pleasant enough day. The race HQ was The Coopers Bar in Birdhill where sign-on and medal presentations were held, and refreshments were provided before and after each event. In the youth event thirteen different clubs were represented and the winner’s medals were spread out among five different clubs. It was wonderful to see the enthusiasm of the children taking part, and who knows there may have been a future Grand Tour winner in our midst!
In the main event Paul Kennedy of Foran cc set the fastest time of the day (38:29.4) followed by our own Eoin Woods with a time of 40:09.9. NTW were represented by 5 club members and ended up with three medals – two winners (Eoin Woods M40, and John Foote M60) and a third place (Edvins Silovs A2), a great return again this year. Also representing the club were Brian Hennessy (A4), and Andy English (M50). Well done to all. A full list of results can be seen here and there are some excellent pictures of the event on our Facebook page. A big thanks to club members Selina Hynes and Vic Nott for taking photos, and many thanks to John Coleman for allowing us to share his photo album.
A big thanks also to all the clubs and individuals who came from far and wide to participate, and for their patience while we prepared for the presentations and waited for us to post the results.
The club would like to thank Dinny Ryan of The Coopers Bar in Birdhill who took care of us on the day, and the medics who would really have taken care of us if we needed it! A big thank you goes to everyone who contributed in any way to make this another well run and successful event, and we look forward to running it again in 2020.
Finally, the club would like to acknowledge and sincerely thank race director Eoin Woods and co- director Conor Hannon who did a fantastic job in organizing the event. Well done lads.
