Club racing
Road Race #4 (the final race in the Spring Series) was held last Thursday night, the 23 rd of May.
The race also doubled as The Lookout Trophy for 2019. The route changed this year as the finish
was not at The Lookout itself, but instead the riders passed it on the way to the finish line. The race
began at the Portroe roundabout on the Nenagh bypass and headed to the finish line just after the
crest of the hill on entering the village of Ballina (approx. 20km). A short but lumpy route,
participants also had to race up Portroe hill – which is a tough task.
Major young talent, riding with Kanturk cc O’Leary Stone, Daniel Yon Hin was first home. Well done to Daniel, he left the rest of the field in his wake going up Portroe hill. From a club competition perspective, the winner of Lookout Trophy for 2019 was Andy English. Second and third place on the night in that competition were Cathal Hanrahan and Eoin O’Connor. Super effort all.

guys there is no racing. It’s much appreciated by all of us. Thanks to Selina for the photos.
TT3
Thursday 30 th of May will see TT3 (of four) in the JJ Moynan Series taking place over our usual
16km course. It’s usually over the final two time trials that the times start to drop, so we are looking
forward to a few new personal bests and maybe even a new club record.
Sign-on will be at The Roundhill Pub from 6.30 to 6.45, with the start time at 6.45pm sharp. Please be on time.
We encourage all club members to come out and participate/support the club racing.
NOTE: Change to sign-on for 2019
Please note, sign on for club racing is to be at the race start line and will no longer be available at Moynan’s bike shop
before ANY club race this year.
NOTE: Well done Daniel Yon Hin (with Kanturk cc O’Leary Stone) who
won the A3/Junior race in the Kilmessan GP last weekend. Fantastic result Daniel!
Club members participating in The Tour de Conamara
Sixteen club members made the trip to Clifden in Co. Galway last Saturday for this year’s Tour de
Conamara. This sportive is part of the Skoda Series and therefore is an extremely well run event
featuring both 140km and 80km routes through the stunning Connemara scenery. The lucky 80km
group got to cycle The Inagh Valley, possibly the most picturesque 20km in Ireland. The weather
wasn’t as kind to us as last year, but aside from a little mist at times it remained mostly dry. A
small group stopped in Leenaun to take on some extra calories for the last 40km, a move which is
in danger of becoming a tradition! A good sized group stayed over on the Saturday night in the
Renvyle & Letterfrack areas, where there is lots of accommodation. A few lads even turned a
youth hostel into an old folk’s home. A great time was had on Saturday night in Renvyle House.
All in all, this is a highly recommended sportive and it’s no wonder it sells out within a day or two,
so please note that if you think you’d like to take part next year.
