Club Updates

Edvins fourth in Blarney, Promoted to A2
Sunday April 14 th saw yet another superb performance from club member Edvins, this time at the
Donal Crowley Memorial Road Races hosted by Blarney CC. In very wet and cold conditions,
Edvins claimed an excellent 4 th place and with it will now be promoted to A2 grade. We must take
stock at this stage and remember that Edvins was still racing at A4 level when he won the A4 race
at Ras Luimini on the 10 th of March! So in just five short weeks Edvins has powered his way
through the A3 ranks to be racing now at A2 level. This is an incredible achievement and the club
would like to congratulate this exceptional cyclist. We wish him every success for the rest of the
year.

Club racing

The first road race of the year took place last Thursday night (11 th April), with the 32km race route
starting at the Five Alley and taking the riders to the Birdhill roundabout, up the ramp and around
the roundabout at the entrance to The Applegreen service station at exit 27 on the motorway,
before heading back to the finish line at the Five Alley. Conditions were excellent for racing as it
was a dry night with little wind. This was the first race in the club Spring Series, and we had a
good turnout of participants. The Group 1 race was won by Daniel Yon Hin (Kanturk CC O’Leary
Stone) who took the race in a sprint to the line. This was a great win for Daniel considering the
calibre of riders in the group. Group 2 was won by Andy English who made a solo break with
about 8km to go, and Group 3 was won by Brendan Hayden – who won by about 20 metres in a
sprint finish to the line. Well done all. Results of all racing including the points awarded will be
made available online in the coming days. A big thank you to Conor, who officiated on the night, and to Selina for taking photos and video.(Which can be seen on our facebook page)
