Club Updates

A lot of news this week so let’s get to it!

Edvins Silovs wins at Dungarvan:
North Tipperary Wheelers are celebrating yet another win by club member Edvins Silovs, this time
in the Dungarvan CC Open Race (A3/jnr.) held last Sunday. With his A4 win at Ras Luimni a few
weeks ago Edvins gained promotion to A3. He followed this up with a very strong performance in
the NTW Open Race where he was in a breakaway that led for much of the race before being
caught a few kilometres from the finish. Edvin’s superb form and performances have continued,
adding this win in Dungarvan to his palmares for 2019, and it seems that the sky is the limit for this
extremely talented rider. At this early stage in the season who would bet against Edvin’s gaining
promotion to A2 before the year end. Well done Edvins!!!

Club racing
The NTW club racing season got off to a flying start last Thursday with the first of four time trials in
the JJ Moynan TT Series for 2019. In very cold and wet conditions, eleven brave souls left it all
on the road over the 16km course. Our TT course was the usual one starting from the Roundhill
pub, on to the Five Alley roundabout, and finish at the Yellow Bridge. The best time on the night
was set by Eoin Woods. Full results will be available online in due course at
https://www.northtippwheelers.com/clubracing/club-racing-results/, but for now please see the flat times listed
below. It was great to see a few new faces taking on the race of truth! A big thank you to Jan who
officiated on the night.

On Thursday 11 th April the first road race of the season will be held. This week’s route is from the
Five Alley Pub – Birdhill Roundabout – left up the ramp to the first Applegreen roundabout –
Birdhill roundabout – finish at the Five Alley pub, 32.2km.
Sign-on will be at the Five Alley with the start time at 6.45pm sharp. Please be on time as
evenings are still short, and ensure you have lights.
We encourage all club members to come out and participate/support the racing.

NOTE: Please read the information regarding the format and rules for the 2019 season club
racing in the “Club Racing” section of the website. It is important that anyone taking part
be aware of this information.
Please ensure that your cycling Ireland licence is up to date and renewed.  If it’s not up to
date for the 2019 season you won’t be able to take part in the race as you won’t be covered
by insurance – and remember that you need a Limited Competition Licence.

Club Spins:
It was a glorious weekend for cycling and we had a good number of club members out on Sunday,
no doubt delighted that the cold and wet midweek weather had moved on, although the early
morning was still a bit chilly until the fog had burned off. There was a large turnout for the leisure
group spin (no report available).
We had about 14 out for the orange/red combined spin who took in Thurles, Templemore and
Roscrea before heading back to Nenagh, just over 100km. Offers of extending the route to Birr
were vigorously debated and ultimately overruled! Continuing the recent Sunday tradition of eating
well, a few of the group tucked in to some very delicious doughnuts in the service station on the
way out of Templemore. This could yet prove to be a popular route. A very enjoyable spin except
for one minor mechanical, and all returned safely.

The week ahead:
Please remember that the evenings are still not that long so lights and hi vis clothing are required
if you are planning on being out near dusk.
Tuesday: Club spin leaving Moynan’s at 6pm (lights and high viz a must)
Thursday: RR1 (see above), start time 6.45pm sharp from the Five Alley pub.
Saturday: Training spin leaving from Woodies car park, Nenagh at 9am. (check first)
Sunday: Club spins leave Moynan’s at 9am. Routes to be decided on the morning.
