Club Updates

Club Spins:
Sunday Orange/Red Group club spin:
The mixed orange/red group headed out on a cold but initially dry Sunday morning in the direction
of Limerick on the R445 (old main road). As we carefully(!) approached the railway crossing after
Herbert’s Bar, it was noted that a very dark and ominous cloud was heading our direction from the
west. As we had intended turning for home in Castletroy anyway, we decided to turn left and left
again onto the Newport road and head back in the direction of Nenagh. There was a little rain at
that point and a welcome coffee stop was called in the Centra in Newport. Refuelled, we headed
back towards Birdhill but the skies continued to darken in the direction we were headed and
eventually the rain came. As the Heavens opened, Nanno put in a huge shift at the front on the
road back, the pace slightly helping to take our minds off the hailstones! Or maybe not. Having
said that, we covered about 66.5km at a pretty good moving average. Never was a hot shower
more welcome!
Well done to everyone who dug in, it was a tough spin but we all made it back safe and sound
without any incidents.
Open Racing:
Well done to the club members who took part in the Nenagh CC Winter Warriors series – race 1.

NTW TABLE QUIZ

It’s that time of the year where we will yet again be hosting our annual table quiz! It promises to be
a really fun club night out. So please do come along on Friday evening, March 1 st , to The Dapp
Inn, Nenagh. Our quiz starts at 9pm and we will have great prizes and spot prizes to give away.
Get those thinking caps on folks. A table of four is just €20 so please bring along as many friends
and family as you can on the night, the more the merrier. Everyone is welcome.
If any of you can bring something for the raffle if at all possible on the night whether it’s a
box of chocolates or something small, It would be very much appreciated. This is one of
our main fund raising events, so let’s work to make it a very successful and fun night out!

*** DATE FOR THE DIARY / SAVE THE DATE:
Our club will be running our Open Road Race on Sunday 24th of March. This event was a major
success for the club last year and really put us in the spotlight as it was very well run, and we had good numbers taking part. A huge amount of work goes into running an event like this, and a lot of it goes on in the background in the weeks and months leading up to the day. We really need every member of the club to do their best to help out on the day, and to support their fellow club members who devote so much of their time into organizing the race. We are always in need of marshals on the day in order to ensure the safe running of the event. So please, Save the
Date!

Beware!

A heads up to anyone that may be cycling in the area, a fellow member was cycling between Newtown and Portroe, and at Ballycarrido last Saturday,  he went into a track cut in the road and damaged his front wheel, luckily there were no injuries, but the wheel is destroyed, so be careful if you are cycling that way as these holes may be submerged underwater etc.

He went back the following day to take another look, the picture shows how deep the cut is, he estimates its 3.5 inches at its deepest. Safe Cycling everyone!
