Club Updates
Winter Turbo Training
With the clocks gone back, it is that time of year again for our winter turbo training sessions. These sessions are open to anyone (not just current club members) who would like to come and join us and will be held every Tuesday and Thursday evening in Ballycommon Hall starting on the 30th October. The sessions will begin at 7pm sharp, so everyone will need to be setup and ready to go by 7pm. Anyone interested will need to bring their own bike and turbo trainer, and a mat or towel for under their bike to protect the floor. Remember, to get the best from these sessions it is advisable that you have real time access to your cadence and heart rate, and if at all possible your power data.
There are two main ways to achieve this, either with a capable bike computer/cadence & heart rate sensor/power meter combination, or with a smart turbo trainer and a smart phone and heart rate sensor. Of course, if you don’t have this equipment you are still very welcome to come and do turbo training with us!
The club has a small number of spare turbo trainers that anyone can use if they do not have their own. These will be available on a first come first served basis, but existing club members and anyone who did the turbo sessions last season should really be looking to bring their own and leave the spare ones for new people to try.
Rob has put a lot of work into preparing for the turbo training sessions and there will be info. sheets available on the night, so we hope that as many as possible will follow the program.
Cost is €3 per session collected on the night, and there will be a sign-in sheet for all participants.
Good luck and enjoy the sessions!
Club spins Sunday 28th October
We had three groups out on the road on Sunday, which was fantastic given the near zero temperature. The leisure group led the way, departing from the car park at 9am and heading out towards Moneygall, Cloughjordan, Borrisokane and back to Nenagh. Chapeau to Ger, Patricia, Cathy and Aisling! And we would like to extend a warm welcome to Aisling who has started cycling with us on our Sunday spins.
The next group out were not as brave as the ladies and decided to stick to the main roads, so we did the 66km round trip to Roscrea and back. On the way back we exchanged pleasantries (!) with the next group out, who we passed going the other way. Several of the group decided to stop for a coffee at the Obama Plaza and couldn’t resist the temptation to get a picture with the former President and First Lady.
The final group to go out left at 10am in order to give more time for a thaw to set in. The lads (Owen, Dan, Kevin, Pat) also decided to head to Roscrea and back and had a nice relaxing spin. They decided to bypass the coffee stop on the way back and in doing so avoided the ensuing drama with the Obamas and Kevin got some company for part of the way back to Ballina.
Everyone got home safe and sound, and it was great to see so many NTW jerseys on the road.
Thanks to those who submitted reports on the various spins.
