Club Notes/This weeks spins
A very good afternoon to you all. Hasn’t the weather been amazing for the last few days and we hope you are having a lovely Bank Holiday weekend.
Tuesday evening we had a great turnout for the club spin. The weather drew everybody out 🙂 they covered a distance of 70km. The route took them to Toomevara, Moneygall, Dunkerrin, Borrisokane and back to Nenagh. Overall a great training spin enjoyed by all on the night.
Thursday evening we had TT No.3 in the J Moynan TT series. It was a fantastic evening for racing and some brilliant times were set on our usual 16km course. Eoin Woods set the fastest time on the night, very well done Eoin. Stuart Witts took the overall win, when the handicap times were calculated. So very well done Stuart. Thanks to everyone who took part on the night and thanks to all who helped, Jan with timekeeping, Conor for marshalling and there are also some great photographs of the night taken by Vic and Tracy which you can see here so thanks folks.
Sunday we had a great group of 25 out on the road for our morning club spin and we welcomed members from our neighbouring club Lower Ormond CC who joined in with us for the spin. The group rode all together until Kilruane where the group split took place. This week everyone took on the 100km loop which is brilliant to see, in fairness the weather conditions were perfect for it so well done to all and see you next week again 🙂
This weekend we have a few club members taking part in the Munster Time Trial championships in Patrickswell, Co. Limerick, so we want to take this opportunity to wish them all the very best of luck.
Also we have a few members travelling to Co. Wicklow on Sunday to take part in the tough Wicklow 200 and a few members heading to Carrick on Suir to take part in the Sean Kelly Classic, So very best of luck to you all and enjoy the day.
Mizen to Malin.
The countdown is on and it’s only 8 weeks until we take on this great challenge. At this stage your training should be in full swing and when possible, be getting in back to back long spins at the weekends or during the week whenever you can manage it and get used to being in the saddle for long periods of time. It is very important to train for this event as it will make it more enjoyable for you when the time comes around.
This week’s Club Training spins are as follows:
Tuesday: Club training spin leaving from Moynans bike shop, Nenagh at 6.30pm sharp. Route decided by the group.
Wednesday: Club evening spin leaving from Moynans at 7pm.
Thursday: We will have no club race this week, we are giving you all a well deserved break. Instead there will be a club training spin leaving from Moynans at 6.30pm. The route can be decided on the night.
Friday: NTW Open Time Trials. Please note that the club has decided to cancel the open league due to the lack of takeup of the event. We would like to thank those who have come out and supported the event and we will revisit running the event on a different evening sometime in the future as it seems the Friday nights just didn’t seem to suit the majority of people.
As we are cancelling the competition, we would like to offer anyone who has taken part in the event a refund of their entry fee. Just contact Jan or email us on northtippwheelers@gmail.com to arrange it.
Saturday: intermediate cycle 40/50km in distance, leaving Woodies at 7.30am. Anyone who wants to is very welcome to join in on this spin. You can contact William on 086 2447888 for more details.
Mizen to Malin training spin will be leaving from Woodies car park at 9am. The route will be decided on the morning by the group. Keep an eye on WhatsApp for details closer to the time. Even if it’s only short spins at the moment try and get used to the back to back spins on the Saturday and Sundays in the lead up to the event, it will make a big difference to your enjoyment of it! Please note that some of our members are away racing and numbers may be down but if you use your club whatsapp, you can chat amongst yourselves and decide what you are doing.
Sunday: Club spin leaving Moynans at 9am. Route: Moynans – Portroe – Ballina – O’Briensbridge – Daly’s Cross – Limerick – Newport – Shalee – Silvermines – Dolla – Toomevara – Nenagh, 95km. This weeks route has plenty of turn back points for anyone who may want a shorter spin.
Have a good week everyone…
