Club Notes
Racing
The Club was well represented in Fermoy on Sunday for the Dan O’Donovan Memorial Race with 5 members participating.
In the 72km A3 race, Tommy Hanrahan and Paddy Rohan took to the start line. At the start of lap 2, Tommy broke from the bunch and rode aggressively, launching attack after attack for the remainder, only marginally missing what was to be the winning break. Tommy worked hard leading the chase group on the second last lap but it wasn’t to be. In the end he finished in 10th place, another fantastic result after his 11th placing last Wednesday in the Birr Crit, especially considering he hasn’t raced since April.
Sinnead Oakes, Dan Hogan and Julie White rode the 54km A4 race with Dan the only one to complete the race after Julie crashed out half way through lap 5 of 6 (war wounds below). Dan finished in 10th in the sprint finish, another great result for him. Well done to all who competed.
Sunday Spin
Numbers on the Sunday spin were down this week, with only 4 on the Leisure Spin which went from Nenagh – Toomevara – Ballinamona Cross – Templederry – Dolla – Ballinaclough – Nenagh. This was approximately 50km at an average speed of 21kph. Remember to support the Sunday spin (9am from Moynans) if you can, you will get to meet other members and can then organise other spins throughout the week among yourselves.
The fast(er) group had 7 members out and a fast pace was set from the start by Mikey Connors and John Foote with John O’Carroll, John Spillane, Duncan Hodgins, Aidan Kileen and Kevin Byrne hanging on as best they could (Kevin’s words!) The route can be seen in the map below. This was just over 100km at an average of 30kph. Well done all.
