Club Notes / Winter gear order / Next weeks spins

Another week has gone by so fast.

On Wednesday evening we had our IGM (Interim General Meeting) which was held in the Dapp Inn. We had a reasonable turnout of members on the night, we do understand that it is the time of year that a lot of people are still on their holidays. The meeting was opened by our club chairperson Pat Bergin, who went on to tell everyone what has been happening to date in the club. It should be noted that we had some great constructive contributions made by all members including the race formats and this was welcomed by the race committee and was implemented immediately by changing the way the championship TT handicapping was worked out and also led to the route being shortened to the standard 16km. So we would like to extend our thanks for that. We would like to thank the Dapp Inn for having us there and all the members who attended and a note of thanks to to the committee who are doing stellar work this year. The club has gone from strength to strength this year and is running extremely well.

We already have one of our club championship races contested! On Thursday evening we had the club championship TT that was held on our usual course from Roundhill, Fivealley roundabout back out to the finish at the Yellowbridge.  We had 17 members out on the evening and our winner on the night was Eoin Woods who was the most improved on the evening taking almost two minutes off his best time. Fantastic result Eoin and well done again.

We must mention all the other riders who were out on the evening, you all did extremely well and very well done to you all for taking part. The TT is certainly not the easiest discipline in cycle racing! You can read the full race report here.

Sunday: One thing the vagaries of the Irish weather continuously demonstrates is that we should expect the unexpected.  Saturday’s forecast was for such poor weather, heavy rain and wind covering the country from early morning, that I’m sure we weren’t alone in writing off the Sunday spin.  What a relief and surprise then to wake to dry, mild conditions with just a moderate breeze. A total of 15 cyclists set out on the planned route, 8 racing and 7 intermediate. For the latter group this is a great spin in that all the climbing is out of the way after the first 15 kilometres or so.  With Shallee conquered the road ahead is much more welcoming.  The 7 intermediates worked well together and had a very enjoyable 73km spin all getting back to Nenagh together. The seniors got in 100km with a challenging route taking in some tough climbs. All in all, some great training was had! Well done all.

Winter Club Gear Order

We’re sure you’ve seen some of the lads sporting the new club kit for the last couple of weeks now and we hope you all agree it looks fantastic! We’re sorry for the short time between orders due to issues we encountered with our previous supplier but we will need to be placing another order for club gear in 2 weeks time to make sure we have our winter gear in time for the colder months that unfortunately are not too far away now! With this in mind the cut-off point for ordering will be Sunday 16th Aug so get your orders in before this to avoid disappointment.

The order form is the same as the previous order and we need to reach minimum order numbers of 10 of each item to be able to order, so unless the orders come in to make up these numbers, those items will not be ordered. The only product that really needs explanation is the “Hydra Waterproof Jersey”. It is essentially a waterproof and windproof jersey and is a fantastic piece of kit for this countries weather! Also for the winter tights, there are 2 versions, one is a standard type and the other is a water repellent type which has a water repellent finish on the front of the legs and the bum panel. The choice is yours but the minimum order quantities apply…

To order, just fill in the quantity of the items you would like to order on the form below and it will show you the required deposit(50%) which is due straight away with the remainder falling due just before delivery in about 6-8 weeks from the order date.

You can download the spreadsheet to view/edit on your computer by clicking on the download link above. If you don’t have excel to edit, you can just view it here on the page and just email/text/phone your order to Owen at ohynes@gmail.com / 087 0523275. All we need is the type of garment you want (we’ve included the unique 5 digit order number for each item), the quantity and sizes you require. Any questions on the gear just give us a shout.

To get in your deposit, just drop it in to Jan or hand it in to Peter in Moynan’s Bike shop or alternatively give it to any of the committee and it will get in to the club. If you’ve ordered something that doesn’t meet minimum orders we’ll let you know once everyone comes back.

Next weeks Club Training rides are as follows:
