Club Notes Weekend of Sunday August 10th
Approaching mid August and though the nights are drawing shorter, there’s still plenty of club activity remaining before the end of the season. At the weekend both Kevin Byrne and Dan Hogan were in open race action at the Dan O’Donovan Memorial Race in Fermoy, Co. Cork. Whilst the conditions of the 100km A3 race may have been unfavourable toward Dan, Kevin Byrne, back in race action after riding the Etape du Tour, made himself known during the final lap of the 60km A4 to lead the chasing pack in an attempt to close down the breakaway rider. However, Kevin’s efforts to secure vital race points were to prove unsuccessful but Kevin did finish strongly in the bunch sprint that decided the secondary places.
Thursday’s club league race saw the first of the Club Championship race. The 20km Time Trial started and finished at the Roundhill Pub on the old N7 and was won by Liam Callaghan (pictured) in a time of 27mins 20sec ahead of John Foote and Benny Delaney in second and third respectively. Time gaps between other riders were incredibly close demonstrating the improvements in form and fitness throughout the season and of course presenting some friendly rivalry. The next Club Championship race will take place this Thursday Night – The Club Championship Hill Climb with sign on at 6.16pm at Moynans Bike Shop.
Club race training rides continued last week and the concept of publishing the Sunday route in advance is proving successful. Training spins continue for the following week as per normal times and locations – Tuesday Nigh at 6pm and Sunday at 9am both from Moynans Bike Shop Nenagh, and 9am Saturday from Woodies carpark for the race training ride. Further details of routes and Thursday night’s club race will be available on northtippwheelers.com. New members are welcome on these rides.
