Club Notes Weekend of May 18
The annual Club Tour of Lough Derg takes place this Sunday May 25th . The Club Tour is an established feature of the club calendar and the club extends an invite to all club and non-club members for this event. This is a fantastic 130km cycle which will see the peloton leave in two different groups at two different speeds to cater for diversity of cycling abilities and fitness. Everyone who signs-on will be entered into a draw for a ‘bike-fit’ worth €100. The Tour will depart and finish again from the Lakeside Hotel, Ballina with sign-on available at the hotel from 8.30am with first group departing at 9.30am and second group at 10.30am. There will be a scheduled food stop in Portumna and refreshments at the finish. This is a great opportunity to get involved with the group cycling for the first time or simply to take on the challenge of the North Tipperary Wheelers Lough Derg cycle. Full details are available on the club website (www.northtippwheelers.com). All members are asked to support this event.
Pat Bergin and Liam Callaghan of North Tipperary Wheelers pictured recently were delighted to hand over a cheque to Martina Leamy and Cormac Mc Quaid of Pieta House Roscrea for €300 following the club LegWax fundraiser held in The Thatch Cottage.
After 5 weeks of club racing, the new club race league is heating up. Last Thursday saw Brian O’Neill win the 25km road race after a sprint finish and take a well deserved win. Full results and league table standing are available on the club website. Well done to club member David Kyle who put in a strong performance in the testing A4 category Crotty cup race held in Kilmihill Co. Clare on Saturday last.
The club race training ride last Saturday morning left Woodies carpark at 9am and saw nine Wheelers put in a challenging high tempo 95km spin. The wet weather on Sunday didn’t deter a smaller group leave Moynan’s at 9am and take in a 70km ride. The popularity of the Tuesday night training ride (6pm from Moynans) is increasing with 14 riders taking in a 70km route which took in Ballinahinch and Newport before returning via Limerick.
This Thursday’s club race is a hill climb starting at Ballina with the finish atop of Portroe. Sign on at 6.15pm at Moynan’s Bike Shop, Nenagh with a depart for the start line at 6.30pm sharp. Sign-on will also be available at the start line. Details of the race route are available on the club website.
