Club Notes Weekend May 4th

The Club was represented this week locally, Nationally and Internationally.  Pat Bergin and Peter Moynan took part in the Mallorca312 5th International Cycletourist Tour of Mallorca.  This was – as the title suggests, a 312km sportive tour of the Island of Mallorca which included some 4,000m of climbing.  Well done to both riders pictured in what looks like very tough conditions!  Slight closer to home, Julie White (also pictured) looked in flying form in County Cork at last weekends Kanturk 3 day event.

At home, last Thursday’s 20km club road race from Five Alley to Dolla was won by Benny Delaney who emerged from the bunch of both category 2 and 3 riders.  The league table has been updated and available for view on the club website.  Several riders took part in last Tuesday’s Limerick Summer League whilst a separate bunch of 8 riders left Moynans at 6pm to do circa 60km over the rolling terrain of Coolbawn and Puckane before the return to Nenagh.  Both the Saturday and Sunday training rides escaped the recent poor form in weather.  A hilly route presented the challenge for the Saturday morning spin which included Moneygall, Upperchurch, Dolla, Ballinahinch, Birdhill, and Ballina before the return to Nenagh via Portroe.

On Sunday, 20 members left on the leisure and faster club rides.  The faster ride took in circa 110km on route that included Portumna, Birr, Shinrone, Dunkerrin and Monegall. Elsewhere on Sunday, a number of members also took part in the Charity Cycle around the lake that left and returned to Portumna.  Well done to all members for last weeks efforts.

This week, training rides will continue throughout the week and weekend. Tuesday night at 6pm from Moynan’s bike shop, Saturday at 9am from Woodies Car Park and Sunday at 9pm from Moynan’s.  In addition, Tony Maher is doing a training lap of the lake in advance of the Club Tour and will be leaving Moynan’s Bike Shop on Tuesday at 2pm if anyone is interested in joining Tony. The average speed will be kept at circa 22kph so this might be a perfect additional training ride for all members seeking some additional mileage.

Club racing will continue this Thursday night (May 8th).  This weeks race is a TT with a return to the previous TT route on the old N7.  The TT starts at the Roundhill Pub and heads eastward toward Nenagh turning at the FiveAlley roundabout before finishing at the Yellowbridge.  Sign-on is at 6.15pm at Moynan’s Bike Shop Nenagh before cycle to the start line at 6.30pm sharp.  Sign on will also be available on the start line. Entry fee €5.   For further details of any club events or club membership please contact club chairperson Pat Bergin 0876744400.
