A welcomed inclusion of mountain biking news this week with Club member Aidan Kileen taking part in Round 3 of the ‘Gravity Endura Ireland’ mountain bike race series which was held in Ballyhoura Woods Co. Limerick over the weekend past. The trails have recently had a huge revamp to repair winter storm damage and provide welcome improvements to the trail network. This years event saw changes to previous year’s formats with less climbing while keeping and in some cases adding to the length in the stages which included sections into the wilds of the Limerick Mountains whilst also incorporating some of the new technical sections built to cater for advanced riders seeking a more challenging trail. Ideal conditions for Aidan who would finish strongly midfield of the 200 entrants. Well done. A small glimpse of the race can be viewed here.
Thursday night’s club race was a return to the 16km individual Time Trial route with first place being taken jointly by Liam Callaghan and Tommy Hanrahan in 22minutes, 24 seconds from a field of 12 riders followed by Pat Bergin in second and Kevin Byrne. Full results and current club league standings are available on the club website.
The Sunday spin included a group of 20+ riders from the intermediate and senior training groups. The group split at Toomevara with the intermediate group cycling 70km at 25kph whilst the senior group pushed on with an extended distance of 85km. The Saturday race training spin saw riders take in 110km via Nenagh, The Ragg Boherlahen, Rearcross, Newpoprt, Birdhill, Ballina before returning to Nenagh.
