You won’t regret it!

The Club has launched its ‘Junior Training Programme’ to attract and provide for new junior members.  The programme will commence with a training spin on four successive Saturday mornings beginning on Saturday March 22nd 2014 at 10.30am leaving from Moynans bike Shop, Nenagh for between 1 – 1.5 hours. For parents of potential juniors, this is a great opportunity for juniors to try club cycling and to get some cycling tuition, training and safety advise from more experienced riders who are happy to pass this knowledge on.  To register your interest, please contact the club on the details below or Michael Molamphy (Wheelers Junior Development Officer) on 087 2044324.  For members wishing to volunteer to assist with this programme please complete the online form  or contact Mike Molamphy directly.

A record number of Wheelers took part in open racing on Sunday last.  A total of 10 members raced in four different categories – A3, A4, Womens and Juniors – in two different races displaying the significant strides of the Club in the last few years.  With 3 members opting to race the Rás Luimni in Co. Limerick, the remaining 7 travelled further to the Loughrea GP in Co. Galway.  It was Loughrea that saw Brendan (Benny) Delaney secure 2nd place in a sprint finish of the A4 category in what was his first ever open-race, whilst Club road captain Liam Callaghan managed to get in the right break-away to take 3rd place in the A3 category.  Well done also to Club President/Chair Pat Bergin who finished safely with the remaining A3 riders, Brian O’Neill, Dan Hogan and Kevin Byrne with the remaining A4 field and Ross O’Meara in the Junior field.  Prizes were also recorded by the club at Rás Luimni which saw Sinnead Oakes take the first placed woman in the A4 category whilst Tommy Hanrahan took 7th position in the A3 race with Paddy Rohan finishing comfortably again in the A3 bunch.

On Saturday morning last, a group of 14 female cyclists gathered in Nenagh for the final Women’s Winter Training Day which was organised by the Women’s Cycling Commission of Ireland and hosted by the North Tipperary Wheelers and Visit Nenagh Team DMG. After registration and talks by Irish Paralympic team pilot Fran Meehan and Rene Van Dam (Visit nenagh Team), the groups hit the road guided by North Tipp Wheelers Pat Bergin and Liam Callaghan and Visit Nenagh Team DMG’s Mikey Butler. Coaching was provided on the roads with one group covering the 70km Visit Nenagh Women’s Route and the others taking in a slightly shorter loop. If you’re a female cyclist looking for more information on this and similar events then please contact the North Tipperary Wheelers.

Club training continues this week including, Saturday and Sunday mornings, and Tuesday and Thursday evenings catering for all levels.  Further details are available on the club website and on facebook/northtippwheelers.
