Club Notes Weekend 21st Sept. 2014
A cooler autumnal air may have descended over Nenagh early Sunday morning but the conditions were still perfect for the Wheelers club training and leisure cycles during the weekend just past. This extended ‘summer’ season makes club and group cycling all the more enjoyable, keeps fitness levels up and makes the winter shorter. This is clearly evident from the Sunday morning club rides where there was a high turn out on both the leisure and the intermediate/senior group spins. Both groups departed together along the same 70+km route that would take them on to Moneygall, Cloughjordan and Borrisokane before returning to Nenagh. At Moneygall, the group split to facilitate different abilities with the intermediate/senior group leading the way ahead of the leisure group. Increased fitness and endurance levels were clearly visible by the intermediate group displaying personal advancements since the beginning of the summer and the benefit of the structured club spins. At Borrisokane, the intermediate/senior group split again where 6 riders pushed onto Ballinderry returning at an increased pace via Puckane. On Saturday morning, a smaller group left Nenagh and rode to Birdhill, O’Briensbridge and Killaloe before returning to Nenagh via Portroe.
Making use of the fine weather and light – club spins will continue this week including the very successful ‘WoW’ (Women on Wheels) programme being run jointly with the North Tipperary Sports Partnership that will leave Stereame Car Park Neangh again on Wednesday at 6.30pm. All female cyclists are welcome. Road worthy bicycle and helmet compulsory. Tuesday and Thursday nights spins at 6pm from Moynans Bike Shop Nenagh. Saturday spins (leisure, intermediate/senior) at 9am from Woodies carpark and Sunday spins at 9am from Moynans. All welcome to join these spins and all levels are catered for.
