Club Notes / This weeks spins
Hi all, we hope ye have all had a good week, with a mixed week of weather we hope ye have all been able to get out on the bikes.
Tuesday
On Tuesday we had our normal evening spin, We had a good turn out for the spin with around a dozen members out, The group departed from Moynan’s and headed in the direction of Toomevara where they turned right and headed across to Ballinamona cross where they turned left and cycled on towards Kelly’s of Fantane where they turned right towards Templederry and went straight through the village, from there the group headed down Dolla hill and turned left to Silvermines and continued on to the N7 where they turned right and came back to Nenagh with a nice tailwind, good evening cycle covering 60kms.
Thursday
On Thursday we had our Championship road race, It was not the best of evenings weather wise for the race but that did not deter the hardy group which showed up, We had two groups ready to take to the start line from the very off each group worked well together to make the best of the conditions once they reached the turn at Dolla to head for the finish we had 3 riders out in front with the chase on behind to try and reel them in but the 3 lads managed to stay away and we had Nanno Vuyk who took the win on the night becoming our Road Race Champion of 2017 with Patrick Yon Hin taking second place and Joseph Donnelly completing the podium, Congratulations to Nanno on taking the win on tough evening for racing and also well done to everybody who raced on the evening. Thanks to Jan for doing the start and finish, to Brendan and Conor for Marshaling and thanks to Vic for the great pictures as usual.
Mizen to Malin
Also on Thursday we had a group of members set off on their Mizen to Malin trip over 4 days. At the time of writing we haven’t got their update on how the trip went so we’ll update you all in the next edition of club notes.
On Friday and Saturday two of our club members Selina and Owen Hynes took part in the annual Johnson and Johnson Plant to Plant charity cycle, raising much needed funds for Crumlins children’s hospital and Clionas foundation. They took on the two day cycle, day 1 Limerick to Killarney and day 2 Killarney to cork via Molls gap. Day 1 was a very tough day in the saddle with a gale blowing and torrential rain for the duration of the spin, at times they said they could have done with wipers on the glasses but they got through it and the dinner was well earned in the Gleneagle hotel that evening. Day two to Cork was a much better day weather wise with the sun shining for them all and everyone’s spirits were high. Day two the going was much easier thank God with the groups setting good paces overall and NO rain. They reached Cork an hour ahead of schedule and everyone was elated to have finished the challenge safely. Selina and Owen were road captains of their assigned groups for both days along with a few other friends and they both enjoyed the experience. Very well done to you both.
