Club Notes / This weeks spins

Hi all, we hope ye have all had a good week, with a mixed week of weather we hope ye have all been able to get out on the bikes.

Tuesday

On Tuesday we had our normal evening spin, the group rolled out from Moynan’s and headed out to Puckane and from there they headed on to Ballinderry  and from here they cycled on to Terryglass and on to Carrigahorig where the group turned right and headed for Borrisokane, Once the group reached Borrisokane they seen that the clouds were starting to form over in the direction of  Cloughjordan so they decided on a quick straight route back to Nenagh from Borrisokane, The group covered 45kms on a blustery evening, Well done to everybody who was out on the evening.

Thursday

On last Thursday we had our Championship Time Trial race, It was a good evening for the race, We had a good turn out of members to tackle the testing route which was Birdhill to the Fivealley roundabout and back to Birdhill covering 29.6km. Once the racing got under way the lads and ladies were let off at 1 minute intervals, Once the last cyclist had left the start the wait began for them to return, It was Eoin Woods who was the last to leave the start line but the first person to arrive back at the finish posting a time of 40.56 with Liam Callaghan following not too far behind! Some super times recorded on the tough course at nearly double the normal TT distance!

When all the handicaps were totted up we ended up with a three way tie for the win with Eoin Woods, Nanno Vuyk and Lulu Donnelly all locked together on points!! Super efforts from all 3 on the evening so a huge well done to ye! The three of you will have to share the prize money but as this is a championship race the cup goes to Eoin Woods with the fastest time of the three, so congratulations Eoin, our TT champion of 2017.

Very well done to everybody who raced on the evening and to Pat Bergin and Conor for doing the timing.

Saturday

On last Saturday we had six of our club members Eoin Woods, Pat bergin, John Foote, Nanno Vuyk, Selina Hynes and Michael Crowe head to Littleton to take part in the Tipperary County TT Championships, It was a 16.7km fairly flat course with just one little 1km drag up to the finish line, The weather was good for the racing but they had a strong crosswind to deal with on the homeward leg of the course but knowing our crew they would not let a bit of wind stop them from giving there all and putting in some fantastic times, Congratulations to Nanno Vuyk who won Gold in the M50, Eoin Woods who took Sliver in the A2 and 2nd overall, Selina Hynes who took Sliver in the Ladies, John Foote who took Sliver in the A4 and Pat Bergin who took Bronze in the A3. A fantastic achievement by you all. A huge thank you to Upperchurch Drombane Cycling on hosting a great very well run and marshalled event.

Mizen to Malin

This week we have some of our club members heading off on an epic journey to cycle from Mizen to Malin and we would like to wish them all the best and safe cycling. They will be starting the second half of their journey from here in Nenagh on Saturday morning next, the 19th, leaving at 8:30am sharp from the AIBP Meat Factory. They would like to invite as many club members as possible to join them for a few kms on the morning and there will be Tea and Coffee and Scones before the off so arrive early for the goodies and give them a good send off. They will be heading towards Athlone and the lads and Ladies would appreciate the company of any members who want to join them for a few kilometers of their route. The pace will be nice and easy and ye can cycle with them for as long as ye want.

For anyone reading this and sitting on the fence about whether to come out and give it a go, come on out and try it. You’ll be well looked after, just come in and be ready to leave on your bike at 9am from Moynans.
