Club Notes / This weeks spins
Hi all, we hope ye have all had a good week, a mixed week of weather but with the fantastic weather this weekend we hope ye have all been able to get out on the bikes.
Tuesday
On Tuesday we had our normal evening spin, the group left Moynan’s and headed out in the direction of Dolla and then they headed on to the Slivermines and on to the Yellow Bridge from where they headed up Coum on to Newtown and from there the group headed on to Dromineer and back home to Nenagh, well done to everybody who was on the spin.
Saturday
On Saturday we had some of our club members take part in the Frank Maher Memorial cycle, helping to raise funds in the fight against Motor Neuron disease. The cycle set off from Nenagh heading towards Portumna with a nice tail wind behind them, once the cycle got to the far side of the lake they were faced with a strong head wind which made it very tough, the riders broke into smaller groups on the road, they were rewarded for all there efforts when they got on to the old Limerick road for the homeward leg of the cycle with a nice tailwind behind them, very well done to everybody who took part in the cycle for a very good cause.
Club IGM
One for the diary folks, We will be holding our club IGM Tomorrow night Monday 17th of July in the Dapp Inn at 8pm. We hope to see as many members there as possible.
This week’s Club Training spins are as follows:
Tuesday: Club training spin leaving from Moynans at 6.30pm.
Wednesday: Green group spin leaving from outside Eire Og Nenagh GAA grounds at 6:30pm.
Thursday: Club training spin leaving from Moynans at 6.30pm.
Sunday: Leaving at 9am from carpark at Moynans.
Depending on numbers present, we’re going to split into three groups with defined speeds.
The 3 groups are;
- Firstly a “Green” group that will be for beginners/leisure and that group will be in the region of 20-24kph.
- The next group will be the “Orange” group which is an intermediate group and will be controlled at 25-27kph average.
- Finally we’ll have a “Red” group which will do in the region of 28-32kph average.
We’ll split into the different groups in the carpark, with Red leaving first, then Orange and finally Green. The orange and red groups will cover the same route but there is also a green group spin that should only take about 2 hours cycling and includes a coffee stop.
For anyone reading this and sitting on the fence about whether to come out and give it a go, come on out and try it. You’ll be well looked after, just come in and be ready to leave on your bike at 9am from Moynans.
This week’s Green route is a bit of a challenge… Ye’re well able for it!: Moynans – Capparoe – Shalee – Newport – right for Birdhill – Birdhill – up ramp to Applegreen for break – back to Nenagh, 56km
And for the Orange & Red it’s: Moynans – Capparoe – Shalee – Newport – right for Birdhill – right in Birdhill heading back towards Nenagh – left at Yellowbridge for Coum – CAUTION ON DANGEROUS DESCENT – Portroe – Ballina – Killaloe – O’Briensbridge – Birdhill – Nenagh, 98km.
