Club Notes / This weeks spins

Hi all, we hope ye have all had a good week, a mixed week of weather but with the fantastic weather this weekend we hope ye have all been able to get out on the bikes.

Tuesday

On Tuesday we had our normal evening spin, We had 10 members out on the evening, the group decided to head out in the direction of Toomevara and from there they continued on to Roscrea, In Roscrea the group took a left and headed towards Shinrone where they turned at the garden centre and headed for Cloughjordan, Once the group reached Cloughjordan they decided to head for home covering a distance of nearly 70kms, Well done to everybody who was out on the evening.

Thursday

 On Thursday we had road race number 9 in our race calendar. We had a good turn out on the evening and the weather was good on the evening for racing, We had a new route for this race which seemed to go down well with everybody out on the night, On the night we had three groups take to the start line, Group one set off from the start setting a very good pace with group two hot on there heels and group three not far behind by the time group one reached Birdhill and started the last leg to the finishing line they still had a few minutes on the chasing groups with roughly half of the last leg of the race group two caught sight of the lads ahead of them and they increased the pace which was going to make for an interesting finish to the race, Groups one and two merged not too far from the finishing line which was going to lead to a sprint finish with Cathal Hanrahan having just a little bit more left in the tank taking a fine win with John O Carroll taking a superb second place and John Foote completing the podium. Congrats to Cathal on a hard fought win and very well done to everybody who raced on the night. Thanks to Selina for doing the start and finish, Luke for the videos, Conor for marshalling, and to Vic for taking the pictures on the night.

Enjoy your couple of weeks break folks.

Saturday: Frank Maher Memorial Charity cycle in the fight against motor neuron disease & is starting at Tescos nenagh @ 9am and is the round of Lough Derg. They are taking donations on the day and everyone is very welcome to join them on the spin. We would like to see as many members as possible support this event if possible.

Sunday:  Leaving at 9am from carpark at Moynans.

Depending on numbers present, we’re going to split into three groups with defined speeds.

The 3 groups are;

  1. Firstly a “Green” group that will be for beginners/leisure and that group will be in the region of 20-24kph.
  2. The next group will be the “Orange” group which is an intermediate group and will be controlled at 25-27kph average.
  3. Finally we’ll have a “Red” group which will do in the region of 28-32kph average.

We’ll split into the different groups in the carpark, with Red leaving first, then Orange and finally Green. The orange and red groups will cover the same route but there is also a green group spin that should only take about 2 hours cycling and includes a coffee stop.

For anyone reading this and sitting on the fence about whether to come out and give it a go, come on out and try it. You’ll be well looked after, just come in and be ready to leave on your bike at 9am from Moynans.

This week’s Green route is: Moynans – Portroe – Ballina – Birdhill – Up ramp to Applegreen for Coffee – Back to Nenagh, 53km.

And for the Orange Red it’s: Moynans – Portroe – towards Ogonnelloe but left for Pipers (tough climb) before village – Left in Tuamgraney – Left in Bodyke – Left in Broadford – O’Briens Bridge – Birdhill – Nenagh
