Club Notes / This weeks spins
Hi all, we hope ye have all had a good week, with a mixed week of weather we hope ye have all been able to get out on the bikes.
Tuesday
On Tuesday we had our usual evening spin, We had about 10 members out on the evening, The route they chose was from Moynan’s they headed out to Moneygall and up over Army Hill and from there they headed down into Gortagarry at the pub in Gortagarry the group took a right and headed for some hills towards Seanins Pub from there the group headed on to Templederry and headed back to town via Dolla, Well done to everybody who was out on the evening.
Wednesday
NTW BFL week 8.
Wow, where has that 8 weeks gone?!?!? Considering some of these cyclists haven’t gone outside the town boundaries before the course, it is an astonishing achievement that they’ve all comfortably completed well over 40km last Wednesday evening and conquered the climb up to the Applegreen in Birdhill for a coffee and some well earned sweet treats and the participants are now starting to appreciate what brings us all back out every week for more! Week on week all the participants have shown great hunger to increase the distance covered and without even knowing have also increased their average speed to what some of them thought was impossible only a few short weeks ago, so serious kudos to you all and a massive well done to you all for completing the 8 weeks and we’re looking forward to continuing the Wed evening spins for the next 2 weeks up to our All Together spin on Wed evening 14th June for BikeWeek! We would also like to say a massive thank you to all the mentors who’ve given their time over the last 8 weeks to help give something back to cycling and get more people involved in the sport we all love, and I think judging by the smiles after the spins from both participants and mentors, it was thoroughly enjoyed by all!!
Thursday
On Thursday we had Time Trial number 3 in our J Moynan TT Series. Once again we had a very good turn out on the night, It was not the best of evenings weather wise but that still did not stop the lads and lady on the night from setting some brilliant times and huge improvements on times by everybody who was out on the night. Well done to Eoin Woods who set a new club course record beating his previous best time.
Once the handicapped results were calculated it was Owen Hynes who took a fantastic win, Congrats Owen.
Thanks to Jan, Conor, Stuart and thanks also to Vic for the fantastic photographs as usual.
Saturday
On Saturday we had some of our members training for Mizen to Malin complete a lovely spin to Athlone.
Sunday
On Sunday we had to change our planned route due to roadworks between Shalee and Newport leaving the surface a little dangerous but the lads still managed to get in a great spin without the leg sapping climb to contend with. Meanwhile we had a few of the lads head over to do another recce on the course for next weekends Munster Time Trial Championship race.
All Together Spin for our bike for life graduates.
Just to give you all a heads up, we’re going to have an Altogether Spin next week on Wednesday evening 14th June for the participants who’ve completed our Bike for Life program and would love if we had a good turnout of members to come out and meet them for our usual spin to the Lakeside Hotel for complimentary Tea/Coffee and scones. It’ll be a nice relaxing evening spin to the lake so come on out and give them a bit of encouragement and an idea of what the club is about. More details in next week’s notes.
Club bags
Folks, Jan still has a few of the ordered bags left to be collected so please arrange with her on 087 1374354 to collect as soon as you can. Also in case any of you missed out on them there were a few extras ordered but half of them have gone already so if you want one give Jan a shout quickly before they’re gone.
This week’s Club Training spins are as follows:
Tuesday: Club training spin leaving from Moynans at 6.30pm.
Thursday: This week we are having a rest week from racing due to a lot of the usual racers preparing for the Munster Time Trial Championships so normal club racing is going to resume next week. For this week we’ll have a club training spin leaving from Moynans at 6.30pm instead.
Saturday: intermediate cycle 40/50km in distance, leaving Woodies at 7.30am. Anyone who wants to is very welcome to join in on this spin. You can contact William on 086 2447888 for more details.
Saturday: Use the Whatsapp group to organise a Saturday spin for anyone that wants one.
Sunday: Leaving at 9am from carpark at Moynans.
Depending on numbers present, we’re going to split into three groups with defined speeds.
The 3 groups are;
- Firstly a “Green” group that will be for beginners/leisure and that group will be in the region of 20-24kph.
- The next group will be the “Orange” group which is an intermediate group and will be controlled at 25-27kph average.
- Finally we’ll have a “Red” group which will do in the region of 28-32kph average.
We’ll split into the different groups in the carpark, with Red leaving first, then Orange and finally Green. The orange and red groups will cover the same route but there is also a green group spin that should only take about 2 hours cycling and includes a coffee stop.
For anyone reading this and sitting on the fence about whether to come out and give it a go, come on out and try it. You’ll be well looked after, just come in and be ready to leave on your bike at 9am from Moynans.
This week’s Green route is: Moynans – Dolla – Toomevara – Moneygall – Coffee @ Obama Plaza – Back to Nenagh, 47km.
And for the Orange & Red it’s: Moynans – Dolla – Bolingbroke – Milestone – Upperchurch – Borrisoleigh – Templemore – Dunkerrin – Moneygall – Toomevara – Nenagh
We hope you have a great week everyone and hopefully we’ll see you out and about on the bikes during the week and weekend…
