Club Notes / This weeks spins

Hi all, we hope ye have all had a good week, with a mixed week of weather  we hope ye have all been able to get out on the bikes.

Tuesday

On Tuesday we had our usual evening spin, On the night we had around 10 members out for the spin, The route they chose on the evening was from Moynan’s they headed out to Cloughjordan and on the back road to Dunkerrin from they they headed to Moneygall where they headed up Army hill in preparation for Thursday night’s race which brought the group down into the back of Toomevara and from there they headed back to Nenagh where Martin decided he had to stop for a cone, well done to everybody who was out on the evening.

Wednesday

NTW BFL week 7.

The weeks have gone so fast since starting bike for life and it’s been a fantastic experience and journey for everyone involved. Wednesday evening we had Peter Moynan of Moynans bike shop join us to give a short talk on the various types of bikes that are available on the market at the moment and went trough the different price ranges of each, so a huge thank you Peter for doing that for us. When the talk was over both of the groups took to the road and the conditions were perfect for a evening spin with the sun staying with us for the duration of the evening and very light winds. Nice to cycle in 22deg heat for a change. Group one covered a distance of 41km heading out the limerick road to the four sisters, on to Ballina back to Birdhill and home to Nenagh again and group two headed straight out the N7 to Birdhill and back to Nenagh a total distance of 37km. A fantastic achievement by both our enthusiastic groups. You should all be very proud of yourselves and proud on how far you have come in a few short weeks. We look forward to seeing and cycling with you again this week…

Thursday

On Thursday we had Road Race 6 on our calendar, Once again we had another brilliant turn out on the evening, We had enough out on the evening to have four groups set off from the start, each group worked well on the night but it was Eva Moynan who was first home past the finish line with Patrick Darcy taking second place and Rob Dalton taking third place, Congrats to Eva on the win and well done everybody who raced on the night. Thanks to Jan for doing sign on and the start and finish also thanks to Conor and Mike for marshaling and to Vic and Selina for the great pictures on the night.

Saturday

On Saturday we had two club members Peter Moynan and John Caulfield head west to take part in the Skoda Tour de Conamara, fair play and well done to the both of ye.

Sunday

On Sunday Owen Hynes took part in the Clonmel CC 3 stage GP. Stage 1 was a 50km road race over rolling terrain, stage 2 was a 25km road race with a mountain top finish and stage 3 was a gruelling 1.3km hill climb time-trial with a max grade of 25%!! A tough day’s racing by all accounts! He finished the first stage with the leaders so went into the second stage on the same time but after getting caught out behind a crash at the beginning of the 8km climb to the finish and losing touch with the lead group he just didn’t have the legs to reel the climbers back in and lost too much time to get back into contention in the GC but that didn’t stop him putting in a great effort on the horrible climb up Tickincor with it’s brutal gradients and clawed back a few places with a fine effort. Very well done Owen! Great going and great to see the club colours flying. Owen said he wanted to thank Clonmel CC for running such an excellent event and will definitely return next year to give it another go hopefully with a few more of the lads for company.
