Club Notes / This weeks spins

Hi all, we hope ye have all had a good week, with the good weather coming to an end in the second half of last week  we hope ye have all been able to get out on the bikes.

Tuesday

On Tuesday evening we had eight club members out for our evening club spin, they headed out from Moynan’s out the Old Birr Road and continued on towards Bikepark and then turned for shinrone at the Pike from there they headed across to Dunkerrin and home via Moneygall and Toomevara. A good spin was had by all on what was a lovely warm evening, the group covered 60kms.

Wednesday

We have completed week 5 of our BFL course and it is great to see friendships starting to form within the enthusiastic group of participants. This week we demonstrated and spoke about cycling in pairs and in single file, how to rollover to go from one to the other, all of which the cyclists got a chance to practice out on the road. Again we broke the participants into two groups, the first group completed a 28km spin and the second group did a 20 km spin, a fantastic achievement for both groups, kudos! We look forward to seeing you all next week for a longer spin. Don’t forget to go for a couple of practice cycles during the week. Keep up the good work folks!

Thursday

On Thursday evening, we held road race number 4 on the race calender. We had another good turn out of members on the night, On the night we had 3 very competitive groups who were all prepared to give there best efforts on the road. The route was Toomevara side of last motorway bridge – Toome – Moneygall left for Cloughjordan – Borrisokane – left for Ardcroney – finish just before Ardcroney. Congratulations to Joey Donnelly who took the win on the night and to Peter Moynan and also to Pat Carr who took second and third on the night. Well done to everybody who raced on the night and we look forward to seeing you all again next Thursday evening for Road Race number 5. Thanks to Jan for doing sign on, the start and finish line and to Mike for marshaling and to Vic for the great photos on the night.

Sunday Club Tour

We had a fantastic day Sunday for our club Tour of Lough Derg, we even had fine weather for the most part with the odd shower of rain during the day but we still had a very good turnout for our tour!
We want to take this opportunity to say a massive thanks to everyone who worked hard over the last few months to make sure the day went smoothly. Thanks to our members and to all the riders from all over the country who took part. Thanks to all the organisers, club members who helped controlling the pace of each of the groups, helpers at the food stop, to all club members for the fantastic food they supplied, it all went down a treat! Thanks to the lead cars, broom wagon, ambulance service, bike marshals, Gardaí, photographers, the Lakeside Hotel who looked after us fantastically as usual and if we’ve forgotten anyone thank you too… Pictures of the day are up on our Facebook page here

Thursday: Club road race 5. Sign on is at Moynans at 6.15pm and depart to the start at 6.30pm. Race starts at 7pm sharp. Route: Nenagh (Borrisokane road after the meat factory) – Borrisokane – Carrigahorig – Terryglass – Ballinderry – Puckane – Ballyanny, 49km. Entry is €5.

Saturday: intermediate cycle 40/50km in distance,  leaving Woodies at 7.30am.  Anyone who wants to is very welcome to join in on this spin. You can contact William on 086 2447888 for more details.

Saturday: Use the Whatsapp group to organise a Saturday spin for anyone that wants one.

Sunday:  Leaving at 9am from carpark at Moynans.

Depending on numbers present, we’re going to split into three groups with defined speeds.

The 3 groups are;

  1. Firstly a “Green” group that will be for beginners/leisure and that group will be in the region of 20-24kph.
  2. The next group will be the “Orange” group which is an intermediate group and will be controlled at 25-27kph average.
  3. Finally we’ll have a “Red” group which will do in the region of 28-32kph average.

We’ll split into the different groups in the carpark, with Red leaving first, then Orange and finally Green. The orange and red groups will cover the same route but there is also a green group spin that should only take about 2 hours cycling and includes a coffee stop.

For anyone reading this and sitting on the fence about whether to come out and give it a go, come on out and try it. You’ll be well looked after, just come in and be ready to leave on your bike at 9am from Moynans.

This week’s Green route is: Moynans – Portroe – Ballina – Birdhill – Up ramp to Applegreen for Coffee – Back to Nenagh, 53km. If ye feel this is too much for those out then by all means stick to the old route of out and back via the old N7 to cut it back by around 10km and make it a lot easier!

And for the Orange & Red it’s Moynans – Portroe – Ogonnelloe – Tuamgraney – Bodyke – Broadford – O’Briens Bridge – Dalys cross – Birdhill – Nenagh, 100km.

Also on Sunday, our friends C4SC are running their awareness tour which is always a great day out so if you can go along to support them.

We hope you have a great week everyone and hopefully we’ll see you out and about on the bikes during the week and weekend…
