Club Notes / This weeks spins
Hi folks we hope ye have all had a good week, with the good weather continuing last week we hope ye have all been able to get out on the bikes.
Tuesday
On Tuesday we had our evening club spin, we had 10 club members out on the night they headed off from Moynan’s and onto Toomevara and from there they headed to Dolla and on to the Slivermines and then on to the N7 and back to Nenagh with a total of 47kms cover at an average speed of 31.8kmh. We also had a second smaller group out for a spin who did a lovely route of Moynan’s out to Portroe and on to Ballina then onto Birdhill and from there they headed for home. Kudos to everybody who got out on the night.
Wednesday
On last Wednesday evening we had the second night of our ”Bike for life course” we had 3 new members join in the BFL programme. Olivia spoke as one of the most recent female members to join the Club about the benefits of joining via the BFL programme rather than just turning up for a spin. The participants were split into 2 groups. Demonstrations and talks were carried out on many topics including the correct tyre pressure, everyone pumped their own wheels using a track pump, use of gears, group cycling, the importance of hand signals and how to call obstacles you come across on the road, a walk through of the primary riding position and how to negotiate roundabouts. The two groups were taken out for a short spin to practice some of these skills & techniques. Well done to all the participants and we look forward to seeing you all next week.
Thursday
On Thursday we had our second road race of our racing calendar, with another nice evening for racing we had a very good turn out of members to take part, We had 3 groups on the night to tackle the route which was: Last motorway bridge heading towards Toome- Moneygall- Roscrea- Back to the Start. There was a very exciting bunch sprint finish to the race where John O’ Carroll just piped Rob Dalton on the line to take a great win on the night with Eoin Ryan completing the podium. Serious well done to everybody who raced on the night and hopefully we will see ye all again next Thursday for more of the same. Thanks to Conor for doing the start and finish and also to Finbar for marshaling and to Selina for the great pictures on the night.

Depending on numbers present, we’re going to split into three groups with defined speeds.
The 3 groups are;
- Firstly a “Green” group that will be for beginners/leisure and that group will be in the region of 20-24kph.
- The next group will be the “Orange” group which is an intermediate group and will be controlled at 25-27kph average.
- Finally we’ll have a “Red” group which will do in the region of 28-32kph average.
We’ll split into the different groups in the carpark, with Red leaving first, then Orange and finally Green. The orange and red groups will cover the same route but there is also a green group spin that should only take about 2 hours cycling and includes a coffee stop.
For anyone reading this and sitting on the fence about whether to come out and give it a go, come on out and try it. You’ll be well looked after, just come in and be ready to leave on your bike at 9am from Moynans.
This week’s Green route is: Moynans – Dolla – Toomevara – Moneygall – Coffee @ Obama Plaza – Back to Nenagh, 47km. If ye feel this is too much for those out then by all means stick to the old route of out and back the main road!
And for the Orange & Red it’s Moynans – Dolla – Bolingbrook – Milestone – Upperchurch – Thurles – Templemore – Dunkerrin – Moneygall – Toomevara – Back to Nenagh, 100km.
We hope you have a great week everyone and hopefully we’ll see you out and about on the bikes during the week and weekend…
