Club Notes / This weeks spins

Hi all, we hope you had a good week.

Tuesday and Thursday evening we had our usual turbo training sessions and they are still going very well. Everyone is enjoying these training evenings while getting in some very good base mileage and we are delighted to see all the new members who are giving these session a go, a very warm welcome to you all. If you haven’t tried out these turbo evenings yet, please do not be shy, we have a few club turbo trainers spare there for you to give it a go and it’s only as hard as you make it on yourself!

We had a very successful and fun night at the table quiz last Friday night! We had a fantastic turnout and it was great to see so many of you there. First thanks to Susan and Frank of the Dapp Inn for taking such good care of us on the night. We have to thank all the members who gave us a vast amount of spot prizes and also to the various traders who very generously gave us raffle prizes also. We would like to thank Pearse Finn in Ryan’s Chemist who gave us the 1st prize, Dermot Dolan in Ger Gavin’s who gave us the 2nd prize. Thanks to Talbots Electrical, Denis Quirke, The Thatch Cottage, Costello’s, O’Connor’s Kenyon St, Quinn’s Shop and Garage, Moynan’s Bike Shop, Walsh’s Stationers, JKC, Philip’s Furniture, Frank and Susan Maloney, and Select Catering. A big thanks to Tom and Ann Butler who set some very testing questions on the night, they have been our quizmasters for the club for the past 24 years and given the club is celebrating it’s 30th anniversary in it’s current form, a small token of appreciation from the club was presented to them both on the night by our Chairman/President Owen Hynes. I think it’s safe to say we will all remember for ever more how many blind mice there were in the nursery rhyme, with thanks to Roger 😁 we all got the first question correct on the night anyway. A great start but it didn’t continue that way for long! Thanks to you all for supporting and helping out on the night it was really great to see you all there.

The brave few of the race training group who ventured out on Saturday for a spin getting in some good miles.

Sunday Spin

Sunday there was no club spin due to the very bad storm… You wouldn’t even put a cat out in it, so a great turbo session was organised via the WhatsApp group chat and this took place instead. Well done to all!

This week’s Club Training spins are as follows:

Tuesday: Club turbo training session from 7pm to 8.30pm in Stereame. Contact Pat on 087 6744400 for details and directions.

Thursday: Club turbo training session from 7pm to 8.30pm in Stereame. Contact Pat on 087 6744400 for details and directions.

Saturday: Intermediate cycle 40/50km in distance,  leaving Woodies at 7.30am.  Anyone who wants to is very welcome to join in on this spin. You can contact William on 086 2447888 for more details.

Saturday: Use the Whatsapp groups to organise a Saturday spin for anyone that wants one.

Sunday: Leaving at 9am from carpark at Moynans.

Depending on numbers present, we’re going to split into three groups with defined speeds.

The 3 groups are;

  1. Firstly a “Green” group that will be for beginners/leisure and that group will be in the region of 20-24kph.
  2. The next group will be the “Orange” group which is an intermediate group and will be controlled at 25-27kph average.
  3. Finally we’ll have a “Red” group which will do in the region of 28-32kph average.

We’ll split into the different groups in the carpark, with Red leaving first, then Orange and finally Green. The orange and red groups will cover the same route but there is also a green group spin that should only take about 2 hours cycling and includes a coffee stop.

For anyone reading this and sitting on the fence about whether to come out and give it a go, come on out and try it. You’ll be well looked after, just come in and be ready to leave on your bike at 9am from Moynans.

So, for this week we’ll do what we had planned for last Sunday but ended up doing a club turbo session due to the bad conditions. This week’s Green route is: Moynans – Toomevara – Moneygall – coffee @ Obama Plaza – Back to Nenagh, 39km. By all means if this is not enough for you decide as a group and you can easily head on towards Roscrea and turn back at whatever halfway point you decide. If ye were to go the whole way to Roscrea it would be a 62km loop, turning back at Dunkerrin would be 46.5km just to give you all ideas.

And for the Orange & Red it’s Moynans – Toomevara – Moneygall – right in Dunkerrin – right in Templemore – right in Borrisoleigh – Left for Templederry – right in Dolla – Straight at Ballinamona cross – left in Toomevara – Back to Nenagh, 90km.
Several options if you want less as you can cut out Templederry or take any of the various roads back to Nenagh once you get as far as Dolla.

Have a great week out there folks!!
