Club Notes / This weeks spins

Hi all, we hope you had a good week.

Tuesday and Thursday evening we had our usual turbo training sessions and they are still going very well. Everyone is enjoying these training evenings while getting in some very good base mileage and we are delighted to see all the new members who are giving these session a go, a very warm welcome to you all. If you haven’t tried out these turbo evenings yet, please do not be shy, we have a few club turbo trainers spare there for you to give it a go.

Sunday Spin

All groups together before Sunday club spin outside Moynan’s

It’s great to see the fine mild weather return now that spring is here. We were blessed with a dry fine start to the day albeit a bit gloomy for our club spin. There was a great turnout of members on the morning, anxious to get in a few miles into the legs and enjoy the chat and the company. We had enough out to form four groups. It’s so good to see our new members out and also welcome back members who we haven’t seen in a while. The red group set off first and suffered an early mechanical but thanks to Pete they were back in action quickly! A nice pace was set from the off but after turning in Dolla the climb to Templederry soon put manners on them. They regrouped at the top and then enjoyed the nice brisk pace being set into Templederry and on to the Thurles road where they managed to get organised and started rolling well towards Templemore with a nice breeze on their backs. Near Roscrea the drizzle started, but with everyone taking their turn rolling, they soon hit Roscrea where they deviated for a quick coffee stop, where majority ruled, however we heard not everyone was best pleased! The joys of democracy 🙂 It turned out to be a good decision as the rain stopped whilst the coffee warmed the bellies. Back on the road they faced a slight headwind home, but they kept a tight group and worked well together which made it easier. They caught up with the orange group after Toomevara and both groups came home together. Special well done to the new faces who managed to complete today’s route, it was a bit longer than they anticipated but they all did very well.

We had 5 members in the green group this week which is gaining in size every week and is great to see! Setting off from Moynans, they set a leisurely pace towards the Dublin road staying together as a group and made their way through Toomevara and on to Moneygall. They said even though it wasn’t a cold morning, they decided to stop in the Obama Plaza for coffee and a chat, grabbing the opportunity to get to know each other better. They took the same route back to Nenagh, heading into a slight headwind which made progress slightly more difficult, but everyone made it back safely completing a refreshing 40km on a Sunday morning!

Meanwhile we had a good group who decided to head off on the race training spin and headed out the Old Birr Road to meet Joey en route. They completed a very nice route on rolling roads getting in their intervals, passing through Birr, Cloghan and Borrisokane. Well done guys!

Thanks to Stephen, Eoin and Noel for their reports, and to Selina for piecing them together!

Club gear order

Don’t forget about the club gear fitting night Monday evening the 20th at 6-8pm in the Dapp Inn. It’s Verge clothing we’ve decided to go with for this order due to the no minimums so anything that you want to order will be ordered. As a consequence, we won’t be ordering the usual stock so if you need anything for the summer, you need to place an order. Jan won’t be holding the usual stock levels so don’t be disappointed! We’ll be taking orders on the evening and for a week after (cut off is next Sun 26th) if you want to have a think after seeing the gear.

Table Quiz

Just a reminder to everyone of the table quiz, this Friday night the 24th!!!

It’s that time of the year again folks, where we will yet again be hosting our annual table quiz! So who’s up for a really fun club night out, if so, please do come along on Feb 24th to the Dapp Inn, Nenagh. Quiz starts at 9pm. Guaranteed to be a great night. Great spot prizes on the night as well. So get those thinking caps on folks, a great night out and a good laugh with your clubmates.  A table of four is just €20 so please bring along as many friends and family as you can on the night, the more the merrier. 🙂

This week’s Club Training spins are as follows:

Tuesday: Club turbo training session from 7pm to 8.30pm in Stereame. Contact Pat on 087 6744400 for details and directions.

Thursday: Club turbo training session from 7pm to 8.30pm in Stereame. Contact Pat on 087 6744400 for details and directions.

Saturday: Intermediate cycle 40/50km in distance,  leaving Woodies at 7.30am.  Anyone who wants to is very welcome to join in on this spin. You can contact William on 086 2447888 for more details.

Saturday: Use the Whatsapp groups to organise a Saturday spin for anyone that wants one.

Sunday: Leaving at 9am from carpark at Moynans.

Depending on numbers present, we’re going to split into three groups with defined speeds.

The 3 groups are;

  1. Firstly a “Green” group that will be for beginners/leisure and that group will be in the region of 20-24kph.
  2. The next group will be the “Orange” group which is an intermediate group and will be controlled at 25-27kph average.
  3. Finally we’ll have a “Red” group which will do in the region of 28-32kph average.

We’ll split into the different groups in the carpark, with Red leaving first, then Orange and finally Green. The orange and red groups will cover the same route but there is also a green group spin that should only take about 2 hours cycling and includes a coffee stop.

For anyone reading this and sitting on the fence about whether to come out and give it a go, come on out and try it. You’ll be well looked after, just come in and be ready to leave on your bike at 9am from Moynans.

For this week we are a bit restricted due to a lot of closed roads for the Rally so we’ll need to stick to the same side of the country as last weekend but we’ll do it a different direction to change things up a bit. Just be careful you don’t end up getting stuck out and not able to get home due to the closed roads!! In a nutshell, from 8am to 2:30pm your talking about the Borrisokane side, left and right of the main road around Ardcroney and from 12pm to 6:30pm it’s Ballywilliam side and Capparoe side of the main road. See detailed info on road closures below.

So, for this week’s Green route, it’s: Moynans – Toomevara – Moneygall – coffee @ Obama Plaza – Back to Nenagh, 39km. By all means if this is not enough for you decide as a group and you can easily head on towards Roscrea and turn back at whatever halfway point you decide. If ye were to go the whole way to Roscrea it would be a 62km loop, turning back at Dunkerrin would be 46.5km just to give you all ideas.

And for the Orange & Red it’s Moynans – Toomevara – Moneygall – right in Dunkerrin – right in Templemore – right in Borrisoleigh – Left for Templederry – right in Dolla – Straight at Ballinamona cross – left in Toomevara – Back to Nenagh, 90km.
Several options if you want less as you can cut out Templederry or take any of the various roads back to Nenagh once you get as far as Dolla.

Have a great week out there folks!!
