Club Notes / This week’s spins
It was a very quiet week in the club and with the weather we have been having of late it’s hard to get out on the road for a spin.
Tuesday and Thursday we had a dedicated group as usual for our club turbo sessions at Streame. These sessions are proving very popular. Keep up the good work everyone.
Saturday there was no race training spin but two very brave souls, Kevin Byrne and Gary Rowan decided to go mountain biking on Coum. Needless to say they were met by some small obstacles 🙂 along the trails but they had a good morning out and returned safe…
Due to the very bad day on Sunday there was no club spin but there was a club turbo session held at streame.  We really hope the weather improves soon again for us.
Condolences
The club wishes to extend its sincere condolences to club member Joey Donnelly and his family with the recent passing of his father last week, and also to Billy Shanahan and family on the very sad unexpected loss of their daughter, Lorraine. RIP.
We have been asked to mention a Track Master Accreditation Weekend in Derby on our notes and it may be something the club may be interested in.
If you are over 35 and interested in gaining indoor Veledrome accreditation the UK? Tom Daly from Kanturk cycling club is organising an indoor track session primarily for Munster Masters in the new Derby Veledrome http://www.derbyarena.co.uk/
So here are the details.
The venue is the new Velodrome in Derby and it takes place on Saturday February 27th from 7-9 PM and Sunday February  28th from 7-9 AM. The cost of the track hire, including coach, is approx. €900, so that would be €45 per head for 20 cyclists which is the maximum numbers, €60 for 15 cyclists, €90 for 10 cyclists. The bike hire for the 4hrs is £17.50 or you can bring your own. Derby is about a 3 hour drive from Holyhead and there are plenty of ferries from Dublin, so with car sharing and just one overnight with room sharing it should keep costs to a minimum.
Tom can give Irish track accreditation (presuming people go through the stages which they should over 4hrs). Moreover, the Derby coach will go through the UK indoor accreditation framework and sign riders off at the appropriate level they reach. This is a big bonus as it’s the only velodrome in the UK that we know of which does this. So, if and anyone is interested, please read the following details carefully.
You can Email Tom at tomgdaly2014@gmail.com by Monday December 7th if you are genuinely interested and he will tell you what the cost is , for example €45, €60 or €90 as this will depend on numbers. If there are enough people interested and if the numbers are feasible, Tom will confirm the booking, after that, it’s first-come-first-served with the bookings. Travel arrangements and accommodation is up to each individual but Tom can make recommendations on each. Here’s looking forward to 2016 and some more Munster men and women at the Masters Track Champs next year!

Thursday: Club Turbo training session across from Nenagh Taekwondo in Streame from 7pm -8.30pm. The club has three spare turbo trainers if you would like to give this class a go. This will be a structured training session and please contact Liam on 087 6322618 for more details.
Saturday:
A few club members take part in an intermediate cycle 40/50km in distance, averaging 25kph on a Saturday morning leaving Woodies at 7.30am. Â Anyone who wants to is very welcome to join in on this spin. You can contact William on 086 2447888 for more details.
Normal 9am spin from Woodies carpark: We’ll attempt again the planned spin from last weekend and hopefully the weather will be kinder to us. Route: Dolla – Templederry – Borrisoleigh – Templemore – Dunkerrin – Moneygall – Toomevara – Dolla – Silvermines – Old N7 – Nenagh. The lads can decide on the morning if they want to stop for a coffee at the Obama Plaza (56km). For any of the lads not looking for the distance they can head back to Nenagh from Toomevara which will make it around 75km. At this time of the year the Saturday spin is no worse than the Senior group spin on a Sunday so for any of our non racers, if you find yourself free on a Sat morning and feel like coming out for a spin in good company, don’t be afraid to turn up and join in! 🙂
Sunday: Usual 9am spin leaving from Moynans. This week yet again we will go with the planned spin from the previous week. Route: Â Moynans – Dolla – Bolingbroke – Rearcross – Newport – Birdhill – Nenagh. There is a long climb this week but if the groups can’t stay together they’ll regroup at the top of the Bolingbroke climb in the carpark. We’ll stop off in Newport for a quick warming coffee before returning back to Nenagh via Birdhill. If anyone wishes they can extend the loop to Castleconnell by not taking the turn off to Birdhill, just outside Newport, which will make it 89km.
Have a good week everyone and stay safe on the roads.
