Turbo Training

Hi all, we hope you had a good week,We had our usual winter turbo training this week an they are going very well with members getting in some very good sessions under the expert tutelage of Rob, Well done to all.

Club spins

This week’s leisure group mentor was Owen Hynes and here is his report on the spin:

“It was a fantastic morning for a cycle and didn’t feel like a winter spin at all! This led to a great turnout this morning and even though a good few of the regulars were missing due to the bank holiday weekend we still had good numbers for both groups with an even split for the first time in quite a while! Great to see the numbers rising for the leisure group and long may it continue. We started off with a nice solid pace that everyone was comfortable with and got a nice rotation going to spread the workload and no one was left on the front for long before getting a rest. With some new people not used to group riding it’s quite hard to get used to cycling so close to one another and it takes trust in the rest of the group to be able to do so. The lads were getting better and better as the day went on even with tiredness starting to creep in so a very well done to ye, great stuff!! There was a few grumbles before the off about the hills thrown in but credit has to be given to everyone as they all took to the challenge and got over Army hill comfortably… (enough 😉 ) and everyone regrouped at the top. We then proceeded down to Toomevara where we decided to have a lovely coffee stop and a quick chat in the very nice morning sunshine. From there we headed off towards the Silvermines and the beauty of this route is it gives everyone the chance to go a little further if they are feeling good on the day but also we were never far from home at any point. It was such a nice morning everyone that said they were going to cut it short at the start ended up going that little bit further to the next turn back point! A couple of the lads headed back to Nenagh from Ballinamona cross, while a couple more made it across as far as the old N7 and the rest finished out the prescribed hills. Only a stray unseen stone caused a pinch flat near the Yellowbridge on the finishing straight which delayed our return but that also gave us an opportunity to go through some pointers on puncture repair and some of the pitfalls of roadside repairs which was no real bother on a lovely morning in the sunshine. It finished with everyone enjoying the morning and they all certainly earned that roast dinner! 🙂 A huge well done to everyone out and hopefully we’ll see the numbers continue to grow.”

Thanks Owen.
