Club Notes / This week’s spins
Good God, we’ll have to impose a ban on racing when we go away on holidays as ye can’t stop winning! 😉 More fantastic achievements for NTW!!
We have to give huge congratulations to our Chairman and El Presidente Pat Bergin who went to contest the Munster Hill Climb championships on Sunday, hosted by Southside Wheely Wheelers Cycling Club, and came away with the Gold medal in the M50 category! The hill climb took place on the Lacca hill near Ballyorgan, Co. Limerick in gusty but thankfully dry conditions. It was short at just 1.2kms in length but with an average gradient of 10% peaking at 15% in places! There isn’t much to say about this event other than it’s a flat out leg burning, lung bursting few minutes and the only thing Pat had to say about it was his heart was still burning this evening and that he wanted to thank John Foote for all his help today.
Very well done to Daniel Ronan for making the trip to Glengarriff to take part in the An Post Rebel Tour which is one of the hardest sportifs this little country has to offer with hill after hill appearing seemingly non stop the entire way around coupled with the Caha Pass and the Healy Pass no less than twice!! The weather was actually the best it’s been all week down there but he still got soaked twice with heavy showers! Thankfully the sun was out between the showers to dry everyone out and shine on all the spectacular scenery the Beara Peninsula has to offer. If any of you have never been to this part of the country you simply have to make the trip, it’s simply stunning!
Also a big well done to all our members who took to the roads over the week, David Kyle took part in the Raparee Cycle Challenge, Owen and Selina Hynes who took on the mighty Ballaghbeama Gap in Co. Kerry and the rest who were out on the club spins. Well done all!!
Also for any of you who missed the FaceBook post, on our recent Mizen to Malin trip club members John Foote & Olivia Madden provided massage treatment to our members after the stages and the funds collected from the massages going to Pieta House. They wish to thank everyone for their huge generosity in supporting this very worthy cause. They presented the money collected to Pieta representative Johnny Togher recently… Very well done.
