Club Notes / This week’s spins
Thursday 18th – The Flying Mile
We had our Flying Mile on Thursday last which draws a close to another club racing season. It’s a flat out, tooth grinding few minutes where you just pedal as hard as you can for the 2-3 mins it takes to cover the short flat course. The course was ran from just after the turn for the Silvermines to the Yellow Bridge which included a slight fall in gradient most of the way to the finish and even a little assistance from the wind. This year we had a new rule whereby no aero TT bikes, disc wheels, clip on bars, TT helmets etc. were allowed in an effort to make if a fairer race for everyone and make it a little more interesting. When the handicaps were taken into account the results were very very close indeed but our Winner was Jill Moynan with an absolutely fantastic time and only 1 second ahead of Luke Donnelly!! Fantastic stuff from the both of you and it’s clear to see you both learned well from last years flying mile and this year ran away with it!! We’re sure we’ll be seeing more podium spots taken by you both in the near future!! Third spot on the podium was shared by Noel Kennedy and Eoin Ryan. Special thanks go to Selina and Conor for coming out to do the timekeeping on the evening.
We want to thank each and everyone who came out and supported the races over the season and who made it such a success. Congratulations to all our winners and we’ll publish a summary of the seasons winners in the coming weeks.
We also had our usual weekend spins and fair play to those of you who braved the elements…
Also well done to Daniel Ronan on completing the very tough Sean Kelly Tour of Waterford. An always tough event without the weather making it twice as bad!! Fair play Daniel and keep it up.
Open Racing
We had one member take part in the Stafford Wholesale Wexford Wheelers 2-day event. David had a fantastic event in very tough weather conditions where he held the A2 leaders jersey after the first stage and a 9th overall position in the General Classification. He lost the A2 leaders jersey after a UCD rider, Cian O’Reilly, put in an unbelievable stage winning performance on the hill climb time trial 2nd stage but David managed to retain a top 10 position in the overall GC. After some great racing in the 3rd stage and some unsuccessful attempts to drop Cian and regain the A2 leaders jersey, he had to settle with 2nd A2 and 10th overall in the GC and with that some 8 points closer to his upgrade to A1 status! Unbelievable stuff altogether!! On behalf of the club David, a huge well done on this fantastic achievement. It is great to see our club colours being flown successfully at such a high level, you’ve done yourself and the club very proud!! Very well done!!!
