Club Notes / This Weeks Spins
We hope you all enjoyed your week and weekend. The usual club training spins took place during the week and it’s great to see the good numbers attending on the evenings.
Saturday we had two members open racing at the Shannonside GP in Athlone. Eoin Woods in the A3 category and John Foote in the A4 category.
Eoin Woods put in an incredibly powerful performance in his race following an NRPT rider on an early break away after only 7km with Matthew Kennedy of Nenagh CC. The two Nenagh men soon after dropped the NRPT rider and managed to stay away from the bunch for over 85km working very well together. When they knew they would stay away for the finish they agreed to go “mano a mano” from 500m out on the uphill sprint finish. Eoin took up the sprint first with Matthew moving into his slipstream, saving enough in the legs to come around Eoin just before the line and take the win. A very well done to Matthew on the fine win and with it achieving promotion to A2 and also a huge well done to Eoin who’s hard work all season is definitely paying off with a fine second place and now sitting only 1 point away from promotion himself. An incredible showing Eoin and again a massive well done to you on a fine performance. Meanwhile in the A4 race John Foote continues his strong form with another fine performance staying with the main bunch all day and finished safely just out of the points. Very well done John…
Shannonside CC have put together a great video of the day which you can see below:

On Sunday we had members take part in two local tours, the Tour de Cappawhite and the Billy Butler cycle in Birr hosted by the Wolftrap Cycling club. Well done to everyone who took part. We also had the usual club spin with numbers obviously down slightly due to the tours that were taking place but they all enjoyed the challenging Clare hills so well done to you for getting more miles into the legs in preparation for our looming Mizen to Malin which is only days away now!
The club wishes to extend get well soon wishes to Liam Callaghan who is out injured for the next few weeks after his recent accident and we all wish him a speedy recovery. We hope to see you back on the bike soon.
