Club Notes / This weeks spins
Sorry for the lateness in this week’s post, we’ve been too busy gallivanting around the country after the Ras! 🙂
Tuesday evening (17th May) despite the miserable weather we had a great turnout of members for the evening training spin. Now that the evenings are brighter for later we started our spin at 6.30pm. This week the lads and ladies travelled over to the Clare side and got in a good 95km spin. Well done everyone great going. All those miles will stand to you when Mizen to Malin comes around…
Thursday evening we had a great evening for racing for our road race 5 in the road race series. We had 14 members out to take on the 43km course Nenagh, the ever short but steep Ballygibbon climb, Cloughjordan, Borrisokane and back to Nenagh. There was a brutal headwind on the homeward leg from Borrisokane which made for a very tough night on the bikes. It came down to a sprint finish to the line between Eoin Ryan, Joseph Donnelly jnr, and Stuart Witts but it was Eoin Ryan who was victorious on the night so a massive well done to you, with Joseph Donnelly in 2nd place and the 3rd spot on the podium going to Stuart Witts. A huge well done to everyone who raced and helped out on the night. Thanks to Jan for timekeeping, Vic for the photos of the race which you can check out here. Thanks to Selina and to Joey for marshalling the junctions also. Well done all!

Big congratulations to Eoin Ryan, our winner of RR5.
Lost club gear
Just a note to say thanks that our club member who had his gear taken by accident at the tour got it returned and wishes to express his gratitude for the excellent laundry service! 😀
This week’s Club Training spins are as follows:
Thursday: RR6 this week we have our lookout trophy race, with a twist… Not happy with the usual route our club torturer, sorry I mean race setter has completely revamped the route and we’ll actually finish at the lookout. There’s just the small matter of Coum and Portroe to get past first… 😢 Sign on is at Moynans at 6.15pm and depart to the start at 6.30pm. Race starts at 7pm sharp. Birdhill – Four Sisters – Ballina – Birdhill – Yellow bridge – Coum – Portroe – Finish at the Lookout, 35km. Entry is €5.
Friday: NTW Open Time Trial no.8 Sign on is in Birdhill at 6:30pm with a 7pm start. Entry is €5. The course is Birdhill – Five Alley roundabout – Roundhill, 24km.
Saturday: intermediate cycle 40/50km in distance, leaving Woodies at 7.30am. Anyone who wants to is very welcome to join in on this spin. You can contact William on 086 2447888 for more details.
Mizen to Malin training spin will be leaving from Woodies car park at 9am. The route will be decided on the morning by the group. Keep an eye on WhatsApp for details closer to the time. Even if it’s only short spins at the moment try and get used to the back to back spins on the Saturday and Sundays in the lead up to the event, it will make a big difference to your enjoyment of it!
Also good luck to any of our members taking part in the Skoda “Tour De Conamara”, it should be stunning and the forecast is looking fairly kind at the moment.
Sunday: Club spin leaving Moynans at 9am. Route: Moynans – Dolla – Templederry – Borrisoleigh – Templemore – Dunkerrin – Toomevara – Nenagh, 75km.
For the Seniors and M2M cyclists the route is: Moynans – Dolla – Bolingbroke – Milestone – Thurles – Templemore – Dunkerrin – Toomevara – Nenagh, 100km. If for some reason on the morning this isn’t enough ye can decide as a group to go to Roscrea from Templemore instead of Dunkerrin before heading back to Nenagh which will make it a 112km spin.
See ye out there!
