Club Notes / This weeks spins

Bank holiday Monday

We had a great club spin Monday morning morning covering a distance of 100km.

Well done to club member Joseph Donnelly who took part in Bank holiday Mondays leg of Cycle against Suicide spin which left from Ballinasloe and on to Roscrea. Also well done to Lorcan the young man pictured with Joseph. Great achievement and for a great cause.

Thursday we had TT 2 in the J Moynan TT series. We had ideal conditions for racing on the evening. Pat Bergin set the fastest flat time on the night, very well done Pat and congratulations to Stuart Witts who won TT2 when handicapped times were allocated, 2nd Martin Quigley, and joint 3rd Luke & Joseph Donnelly Jr. You can see some great pictures of the evening  here, thanks to Tracy and Vic and thanks also to Jan for timekeeping and thanks to our Marshals on the night.

Friday: NTW TT League No.5

It was a dry sunny evening and they had a helping tailwind on the way out to the Fivealley roundabout but had to endure a cruel headwind on the return leg that just sapped any energy that was left in the tanks, in the end Eoin Woods posted the fastest flat time on the night over the 24km course. We want to say thanks to those who raced on the night and thanks to Jan for time keeping and to Conor for marshalling. You can find pictures of the evening here. We do encourage everyone to give this TT a try as you are only racing yourself on the night and we encourage our members who hold a club race licence to give it a go, it’s great training and it would be great to see you out.

Sunday:

For our club spin at the weekend we supported our neighbours, Keeper CC. They had their annual cycling challenge with a choice of two courses a 55km loop and a 100km loop both taking in some lovely climbs on route. We were very lucky with the weather and avoided any rain on the day so happy cyclists all around. We had 13 members take part in this event which was great to see. There was excellent service on the day with food before the event, during and after the spin. This was a very well organised event and all our members were very well looked after. We would like to thank Keeper CC for their hospitality, thanks to all your marshals and helpers and thanks for making it a very enjoyable morning out on the bikes. Well done to all our members for taking part. You can see some photos of the start here on KCCs Facebook page.

Open Racing

We had two members in action on Sunday John Foote in Newcastle West and David Kyle in the Deenside Cup.

John was very happy with his race and felt very strong, he managed to stay with the main bunch throughout the race. He finished safely in the main bunch to the line… Well done John.

David took part in the 140km Deenside Cup A2 race, 4 laps with a gruelling 5.5km climb near the end of each lap. David got into the main break of the day shortly after the start of Lap 2 when Martin O’Loughlin and 5 others had gone up the road in a dangerous looking move. With 100km still to go this small group had to work hard all day just to hold the gap at about a minute and never got far enough away to take a breather. The group survived intact until the middle of the last climb where they were joined by a chase group of around 8 fresh from the bunch. David was at the end of his resources at this stage so couldn’t contest the finish but the training benefit will certainly stand to him and he said it was great to see a man from the original break, Martin O’Loughlin, still manage to win the race.  Well done David and Martin!

Both lads took some good training from the races so very well done to you both for racing and for keeping the club colours flying high…

Your generosity over the years has been just incredible and we thank you all so much. Committee members will be at the hotel on the morning to take the food from you for the food stop.
