Club Notes / This weeks spins
Another week has come and gone and we are really enjoying the extra daylight in the evenings but the weather has been less than kind at least over the weekend…
Easter Monday a few members got together to finish out the second loop of the Kiladangan spin that was planned for the previous Sunday but due to the bad weather after the coffee stop the majority decided to go home. They met in Ballycommon and cycled to Nenagh out to Birdhill, back by Portroe and back to Ballycommon. Well done to all.
Tuesday we had the return of our evening club training spins and we had a great turnout of members on the evening. They did a lovely route taking them to Cloughjordan, Moneygall, Toomevara, Ballinamona, and back to Nenagh via Dolla 60km. This training spin will continue until the end of the summer and everyone is welcome to give it a try.
Thursday we had another evening club training spin and they did a similar route to Tuesday’s one, taking them to Cloughjordan, Moneygall, Toomevara and back to Nenagh, 50km.
Sunday we had 10 brave souls out on what was a miserable wet morning. After a later than planned start waiting to see if the rain would clear they finally set off. Everyone cycled to Dolla where the group split up. On the Dolla climb poor Daniel was unfortunate to suffer a very bad mechanical that couldn’t be fixed on the roadside! The non drive-side crank on the bike snapped off, not a nice dose at all! I’m sure a quick trip to Peter will get you back on the road before next weekend! We also had John Spillane host a chain maintenance masterclass and it seems the Moynans were most appreciative of the breaks after a little too much celebratory cake the night before! 🙂 The rest of the spin went smoothly for everyone else thankfully and they opted to return from Moneygall. Well done everyone!
Also a special mention to one of our youngest members, Luke Donnelly, who completed his longest spin to date of 69km! Well done Luke, you’re putting a lot of our older members to shame who wouldn’t go out in those conditions! 😉
Open racing
We had two members racing at the weekend in Cong, Co.Mayo, John Foote in the A4 and David Kyle in the A2 category.
John found the climbs a little too sharp to stay with the main bunch but finished the course with a few others off the main field and enjoyed getting some good early season race training into the legs so well done John.
David continues to go from strength to strength and is proving to be very competitive after the upgrade to the A2 ranks. He finished 2nd unplaced A2 in the main race on the card and as it turns out 2nd to a former pro cyclist and world junior road race champion!!! Impressive stuff altogether, very well done yet again David!
Club Racing
This Thursday evening April 7th will see our club racing resume for the 2016 season and we would like to encourage all members to come out and enjoy the racing. The season opener will be the J Moynan TT1 which is a 16km Time Trial on the old N7 starting at the Roundhill Pub and the route being the Roundhill pub – Fivealley roundabout – Yellowbridge. This is an excellent introduction to racing and for those new to the club, all racing is handicapped with points being awarded in different categories according to ability. Don’t be afraid to come out and see what it’s all about. There will be a category for you and in a TT you are only racing yourself! The race calendar will be published shortly. Sign on will be at Moynans bike shop, Nenagh at 6.15pm and start time is 7pm sharp at the Roundhill and entry is €5. See you all there!
NTW open TT league
As you all hopefully now know, we are hosting a club open Time Trial league, starting this coming Friday evening, April 8th with sign on at 6:30pm in Birdhill. This is a huge event on the club calendar and we hope to have a good turnout of members and riders from other clubs in the surrounding areas attending. Any members who have taken out a limited competition or open race licence are very welcome to give the race a go… We would be very grateful if more club members could get involved in helping out with event over the summer months marshaling and helping with the time keeping as Jan may not be able to do the timing every week. Your help would be greatly appreciated and it would involve you more in your club and it would be great to see you out. If you can help us out, we will need names of who is available and when so please contact Selina on 0879177355 by text. Thanks in advance.
