Club Notes / This weeks spins

Notes

We hope that you all enjoyed a lovely Easter and finally with the time change we have nice extended light in the evenings to work off all the chocolate extravagance from last weekend! 🙂 The weather hasn’t been very kind over the weekend but we still had a few hardcore members take to the roads .

Sunday despite the cold and rain we had 17 brave souls out on the road.  The weekend spin was the upcoming Kiladangan GAA  route, the 120km loop, but the weather was so miserable that they decided to do half the route instead on the morning. The group cycled together out to Puckane and from there the groups split. They cycled on to Ballinderry, Borrisokane, Carrigahorig, Terryglass and back to Nenagh via Ballycommon.  The groups rejoined once again at the coffee stop in the Thatched Cottage, Ballycommon where some warm scones and coffee were greatly received. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the Thatched Cottage for catering for us and to Kiladangan GAA for kindly looking after the food stop for us which was very generous indeed and we are really looking forward to supporting  your event on April 10th.

Open Racing

We had four members representing the club in Ras an Laois on Sunday last, Kevin Byrne, John Foote, and Nanno Vuyk in the A4 category and Eoin Woods in the A3 category.

In the A4 category it was Kevin Byrne, Nanno Vuyk and John Foote’s first race of the season. It was a very fast paced race from the off and we learned that Kevin and John were lucky to avoid a crash halfway around the final lap where two unfortunate riders came down hard in front of them and they had to quickly maneuver  themselves around the fallers but the lads were able to hang on and  finished safely in the first bunch. A special well done to John Foote on making an incredible comeback from injury and finishing so strongly! In the A3 category Eoin Woods was very unfortunate and was unable to finish out his race due to a puncture. Your day will come Eoin, keep going, we’re hopeful at this stage you’ve used up all your bad luck for the season! Well done to everyone who raced on the day and good luck in the season ahead.

Club racing

Just a heads up, that on Thursday evening April 7th our club racing will resume for the 2016 season and we would like to encourage all members to come out and enjoy the racing. The season opener will be the JJ Moynan TT1 which is a 16km Time Trial on the old N7 starting at the Roundhill Pub and the route being the Roundhill pub – Fivealley roundabout – Yellowbridge. This is an excellent introduction to racing and for those new to the club, all racing is handicapped with points being awarded in different categories according to ability. Don’t be afraid to come out and see what it’s all about. There will be a category for you and in a TT you are only racing yourself! The race calendar will be published shortly. Sign on will be at Moynans bike shop, Nenagh at 6.15pm and start time is 7pm sharp at the Roundhill and entry is €5. See you all there!

NTW Open TT League

As you may now be aware the club is holding an open TT league starting on April 8th. This league is open to anybody holding a limited competition or open race licence. We are very excited about this event and we hope it will draw good support, the league will be held over 20 weeks on every Friday evening for the summer and it’s 12 TTs to count out of 20. There will be great prizes for the top 3 in each category at the end of the league.
