Club Notes / This Week’s Spins

Howdy Folks? Hopefully you’re all enjoying this lovely spell of weather!

We had our normal midweek turbo sessions and this week the lads even partook in a little gluttony, sorry I mean recovery with some of Mag’s finest apple tart… 😀

IMG-20160311-WA0000

There was a good crew out for the Saturday spin and they enjoyed the always testing rolling hills of Clare covering our normal Broadford 100km route.

We had a great turnout on Sunday morning with the nice weather drawing more people out of hibernation! 😉 Everyone spun together out as far as Toomevara where the groups split in two and it was as enjoyable as a March morning could be for a spin. It is great to finally see some letup in the misery and some little glimmer of the end of winter starting to break through!! With any luck it might continue… 🙂

Open Racing

We had a couple of lads head to Caherconlish to partake in Rás Luimní on Sunday. It was always going to be a tough race as usual with some of the big names in cycling in attendance and we had David Kyle and Eoin Woods there representing the club. This was a race that suited neither of these lads who prefer to pound out the pressure on the longer climbs rather than a fast course like this but they still put in a fine strong showing and finished well. Eoin unfortunately came down with a few more lads after another rider fell in front but thankfully escaped without injury… He was a little disgruntled (not like him 😀 ) as he was feeling very strong but between the fall and then discovering his chain had come off put any chance of catching back on out of his head. David tried his luck with a couple of breaks which went near the start of the last lap and the second attempt on a drag with a couple of strong juniors was looking good when they were joined by a few more lads. They organised themselves quickly and got away but were hauled back after about 4-5km which meant sitting in again for the remaining 15km or so and try to recover enough for the final gallop to the line. He finished in the front bunch and managed to stay out of trouble but they failed to haul in a couple of strong juniors from an earlier break, with Cork-Giant’s Robert O’Leary putting in an unbelievable final solo lap to victory. Both lads are happy to have gotten a good fast race into the legs which will no doubt stand them well for the following races. Well done to the both of the lads!!

We’ll hopefully have more of our racers back in action soon when the recent epidemic that has taken them all out of action gets kicked to touch! Get well soon lads.
