Club Notes / This week’s spins
Hey Folks! We hope you all had a good week.
A few of the lads had a great mornings training on Saturday where they completed the Visit Nenagh Classic A4 route and got some testing hills under the belts as well as some maintenance lessons… even the “winter tubes” didn’t save the lads from 3 stops! 😉
On Sunday after a frosty start we had our Season opening “All Together Spin” and we had a fantastic turnout so a huge thanks go out to everyone for turning up on a cold morning! Everyone had a great spin and were rewarded with some lovely freshly baked warm scones when we got to the Lakeside hotel in Ballina. On the way back we suffered one puncture and the small group that waited up got in a nice bit of rollover training and caught back up to the main group around the Fivealley and then spun back to Nenagh. We would like to thank the Lakeside Hotel for their usual fantastic hospitality and also to Jan and Conor for giving up their morning to marshall and keep us safe, thanks very much indeed!
Open Racing
We also had representation in Broadford on Sunday with David Kyle and Eoin Woods flying the club colours in the Darach McCarthy Road Race. The lads had mixed luck with Eoin winding up getting stuck in a ditch while trying to move up through the field and get into a better position before the first climb and so lost touch with the bunch so had to settle for taking some good training from the day. On the other hand David put his winter training to great use and ended up taking an excellent 8th place which is fantastic going considering how strong the field was! This was an exceptional achievement given he is currently racing in the A3 category and he was competing against A1s & A2s including some of the top riders in the country. Even though it was a handicapped race all the groups were back together after 10km so he was essentially racing for 110km with the A1s & 2s which will give anyone who races an idea of the work rate it took to achieve this result! Very well done David on getting your points tally going for the season! You’ve done yourself and the club very proud!! Phenomenal stuff!
There is a great article here on Sticky Bottle that gives a clear picture of David’s achievements, and a link to a video of the finish here.
