Club notes / Next weeks spins
We hope you all enjoyed a great week and also had a good weekend. Before we get started on the club notes we have to make a couple of very special mentions!!
A stalwart of the club, our very own Jan White, celebrated her 70th birthday!! A very special belated happy birthday to you Jan, we hope it was a great one for you.
Also this week our long standing member John Caulfield and his lovely wife Una celebrated their golden wedding anniversary!! A huge congratulations on celebrating 50 years of marriage!!
Now for this weeks notes… Due to the evenings getting dark early now we have a lot of the club members are getting out when they can and doing their own cycles during the week but we still have the few that are doing the club evening spins and partaking in some night time mountain biking also which is still going well and anyone is welcome to join in… We had a few members out MTBing on Coum on Tuesday evening and also a few decided to go to the trails in Cloughjordan on Friday evening. It’s great at this time of year to change it up a bit and try a bit of off road… It can give you a whole new perspective of our fantastic sport so, if you’ve got a mountain bike, get out there with the lads and give it a try!
We also had a few of the racers kicking off their winter training early on Saturday getting in some good base miles with a spin over to the Clare side of the lake. See the next weeks spins section below for more on our plans for this going forward as we are currently working on a structured plan for those who wish to prepare themselves for racing next season.
On Sunday we had a great turnout for our weekly spin with over 20 out enjoying a fine morning. It was all about getting back in time for the match (unfortunately it wasn’t a better result for our boys in green…) but we managed to get in a great spin on the always testing route out to Puckane and alongside the lake as far as Carrigahorig. Given the time of year it was kept reasonably calm with no really hard efforts put in on the drags (maybe not everyone would agree… 😉 ) but pretty much everyone stayed together on the way around with a few opting to turn off in Borrisokane and head to Moneygall before heading back home in time to shout at the telly! 🙂
Club AGMÂ and electing of the new 2015/16 Committee.Â
Dont forget our AGM will be held as normal in the Dapp Inn on Wednesday, October 28th at 8pm and we will be also electing the new 2015/16 committee, so it is very important to attend and we expect to see a good turnout of members on the night.
Awards Dinner
Reminder Our our awards night is only a few weeks away! It will be held in the main function room at the Thatched Cottage, Ballycommon. The dinner starts at 7pm.  We will then enjoy a three course dinner with tea/coffee served afterwards and all for the super price of just €25. We decided to have our prize giving earlier this year as we do understand that coming up to Christmas everyone has a lot happening and have other commitments on and might not be able to make it. So there’s no excuses now folks as it’s in November 🙂 Remember, everyone is welcome to join us on the night so do bring your family and friends along for a fun filled evening.  We do need to know numbers as soon as you possibly can as the restaurant will want to know how many people to cater for which is only fair. Please contact Jan on 087  1374354 to confirm your attendance… Thanks everyone and we look forward to seeing you all very soon 🙂
Next week’s Club Training spins are as follows:
PLEASE NOTE: All evening spins now require front & rear lights and “Hi Vis” clothing.

- Mountain biking at 6pm on Coum hill, Ballywilliam. Please contact Liam for exact meeting point on 087 6322618
Wednesday: Club intermediate spin leaving from Moynans at 7pm. Â This is our new club night spin. Avg speed between 25/27kph.
Thursday:

- Lads usually meet for Mountain biking at 6pm. Please contact Liam for meeting point on 087 6322618
Saturday: Our winter race training will resume this Saturday and the group will leave from Woodies carpark, Stereame at 9am and we’ll be doing a 90km route over to Clare and back. This will be structured training with next seasons racing in mind so for the next couple of months this is going to consist of base training. Don’t be put off by the “race training” title, these are essentially going to be slow long spins going slowly up the hills and pushing on going down the other side keeping your heart-rate constant. Anyone interested in joining in is more than welcome as it will be a relatively easy spin with no hard efforts for the next while with the harder interval sets going to get incorporated in December. The spins will be usually around the 80 to 120km mark. There will be no tearing off up the hills putting everyone under pressure, that is not what these spins are about for the next few weeks and the Strava segments will have to go on hold for a little while! 🙂 Basically if you have aspirations of racing next season or just want to be able to ride in a strong group in sportives next year these training spins together with some structured efforts in mid week turbo sessions(which we are working on organising at the moment) / on road training spins will get you there.
Sunday: Usual 9am spin leaving from Moynans.
This week we will have our popular UL spin which will include a coffee stop at the UL Arena Cafe, so do bring a few Euro with you on the morning for the stop. Â The senior group if the wish can add on an extra loop to extend the spin or they can cycle up the ramp at Birdhill on the homeward journey if they so wish to do so.
