Club Notes 8th December

North Tipp Wheelers Christmas Prize

With Christmas only two weeks away, one would certainly notice a transition in the mindset of many club members this week.  Whether it’s the impending 2014 racing season, a desire to improve personal cycling with like-minded enthusiasts or simply the thought of the forthcoming festive indulgences, club members were out several times this week engaging in club leisure, racing and mountain biking rides.

Both the leisure and intermediate/race groups enjoyed the unseasonably temperate weather on Saturday and Sunday.  Cycling efforts were controlled in the groups allowing for perfect base training and development with routes concentrating south of the M7 and taking in the Silvermines.  The popularity of the Tuesday night cycle continues.  Unlike weekend routes which depart from Kenyon Street capark, members are reminded that the Tuesday night spin meets at the Five Alley on the Limerick Road at 7:15pm for a 7:30pm depart sharp!  The ride adopts a casual but consistent pace staying on the old N7 cycle lane to the Birdhill – Lisnagry Roundabout and back taking in the Birdhill motorway ramp enabling a 65km mid week ride. As the weeks continue, it is intended to incorporate more structure and objectives into this spin.

Mountain bikers were also out twice this week.  In addition to a Sunday morning spin, the mid-week off-road evening spin in Clougjordan certainly tested the nerves and technical ability of riders.

A reminder to all members that the Club Christmas Dinner and prize giving will be held this Saturday 14th December at the Thatched Cottage commencing at 6pm.  All those attending are asked to confirm with Jan White (087 1374354) if not already done so.  Sign-on for club membership will be available on the evening.

For all members and particularity members interested in open racing next year, the committee would encourage them to obtain their new online Cycling Ireland membership to avoid delays in the New Year.
