Club Notes 6th March 2014
North Tipperary Wheelers Notes Weekend 6th April
The season is starting to heat up in every sense of the word. On Sunday last, the weather cleared and a strong sun broke through at Fermoy, Co. Cork where the club was represented by nine riders at the Silver Pale GP. With the bunch staying together throughout the 60km A4 race, the six A4 category Wheelers maintained a stable position in the bunch with Dan Hogan setting the pace on a number of occasions and Benny Delaney loitering with intent behind the pace setters. But it would be left to the final sprint finish on the slight incline where Brian O’Neill would emerge from the bunch to take 5th position for the Club, a great result for Brian. Meanwhile in the 80km A3 category race, Tommy Hanrahan, Liam Callaghan and Paddy Rohan were to work hard to reel in the breakaway group of riders to finish strongly with Tommy contesting the sprint finish. Well down to all riders racing at the weekend and also to the Nenagh Cycling Club and Visit Nenagh.ie team who were also well represented in Fermoy.
At home, training rides continued over the weekend and it was good to see the increase in leisure riders taking to the road on the Sunday morning spin departing Moynan’s bike shop at 9am. This week’s route saw the riders take a return loop from Nenagh taking in Toomevara, Ballinamona, Silvermines, N7 to Birdhill and return. This is an excellent time to build base training with the club’s annual Tour of Lough Derg only 6 weeks away on May 25th. The Wheelers junior training programme continued on Saturday last with consistent interest and numbers. The final week of the four week programme takes place next Saturday with a later meeting time of 12pm at Woodies car park, Nenagh.
This coming weekend will see the Club enter the Visit Nenagh Classic race with a team entering the Saturday Time Trail and the Sunday A3 and A4 category races. Separate from the racing, any member interested in assisting with the marshalling of the Sunday family fun cycle in Nenagh are asked to contact club member Selina Hynes 087917355.
Club spines will continue this weekend at the scheduled times and next Tuesday night from Moynan’s Bike Shop Nenagh.
