Club Notes
We hope you all had a lovely Christmas break and you’ve been replenishing your energy levels with a well deserved rest! As far as the cycling, it was a bitterly cold weekend but that didn’t deter from us having a fine turn out for the mountain biking session in Bike Park Ireland, Fairymount farm on Saturday morning.

Early last week the forecast was not very favourable for Saturday but we were very lucky as it held up well for us with only some light drizzle falling around lunch time so it was escaped by both those just staying for the half day and the rest hid out in the fantastic little cafe on site. I must admit that I’ve never had a burger off a BBQ in the middle of winter before but it went down exceptionally well as well as the warming soup and coffee 🙂
As far as the trails went we had a mix of the members who attended the last outing and a few new recruits but again everyone was full of praise for the green, blue and red trails which were attempted by all. The lads there for a half day were burning legs and lungs on the enduro climb while others there for the long haul were taking the easy route up on the back of the army trucks and putting all the effort into surviving the fantastic descents 🙂 As was stated in the last report, with MTB, if you’re not falling off you’re not trying hard enough and as a group we didn’t disappoint… There were several casualties of the trails and while some took away some scrapes and bruises with them everyone also went home smiling from ear to ear…
Thanks to Joseph Donnelly for putting together a little video of the morning which can be viewed here:Â http://youtu.be/3b2XWpWxYJI
There is no doubt we will be back again soon to feed the growing addiction that has taken hold of all who have tried this place! Thank you Bike Park Ireland for giving us these facilities but also for your exceptional hospitality.
On Sunday morning it was even colder with temps still at -4 at the designated start time so it was only the hard core (or crazy 🙂 ) cyclists that turned out, chapeau folks!
Given the temperature the decision was made to alter the planned route and stick to the main roads where the salting should have made it safe. They cycled to the new Applegreen service station, up the ramp from Birdhill, and stopped off for a warming coffee before returning back to Nenagh. The going was very tough we’re told…
All thankfully returned without any mishaps from the icy conditions.
Details of next weekends spins will follow during the week.
We would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very happy New Year! Good luck with whatever your plans are for your cycling endeavours this coming year.
