Club Notes 30th March 2014
A great start to the season for the Club with the Wheelers totalling 19 entries in open racing since February. Paddy Rohan was the sole representative of the club at Open Racing at the weekend finishing well in the bunch of the A3 category of the Harry Reynolds memorial at Ballbriggin Co. Dublin. With only one member racing last weekend, the remaining racing members took on what turned out to be a challenging and new 120km circular route from Nenagh on Saturday deep into County Clare taking in Portroe, Killaloe, Scarriff, Caher (Lough Graney), Feakle, Broadford, O’Briensbridge, Birdhill before returning to Nenagh via the N7. The weather was kind with bright and dry conditions until all returned safely before the rain set in for the remainder of the day.
The introduction of official summer ‘time’ also brought renewed interests from leisure and other club members with a total of nine riders departing on the Sunday spin benefiting from the fine weather on Sunday morning also. The North Tipperary Wheelers Youth Programme continued last weekend and it was great to see growth in the numbers and participation from new female juniors. This programme will continue for the next two weeks (departing Saturday mornings from Woodies carpark, Nenagh at 10.30am). More details of the training programme are available on www.northtippwheelers.com/club-training and all members should promote this as much as possible.
Existing and new members should note that for the remainder of the summer, the Tuesday night training ride will depart from Moynan’s Bike Shop Nenagh at 6pm and will cater for all abilities. The Saturday race training spin and the Sunday club spin will continue and all members should make efforts to support these club rides. The club race calendar is now available on the club website for review and club racing will be open to club and non-club members. The race calendar will be updated regularly and therefore it is recommended that members review those details and up to date posts on facebook (northtippwheelers/facebook). All those taking part in club training rides or club racing should ensure that they hold the relevant Cycling Ireland licence.
Club membership is free to new members. For further information on the club or about any of the above events please contact Pat Bergin on 087 6744400.
